set -e, -u, -o, -x pipefail explanation

set -e, -u, -o, -x pipefail

The set lines

  • These lines deliberately cause your script to fail. Wait, what? Believe me, this is a good thing.
  • With these settings, certain common errors will cause the script to immediately fail, explicitly and loudly. Otherwise, you can get hidden bugs that are discovered only when they blow up in production.
  • set -euxo pipefail is short for:
set -e
set -u

MinIO vs microk8s Findings

I could not reproduce the failure condition. I installed a 1-node cluster using this on Ubuntu 20.04 (Intel NUC).

Instructions for setting up the Logstash configuration for synching PostgreSQL with Elasticsearch

Populating Elasticsearch Index with Logstash

Logstash is a free and open server-side data processing pipeline that ingests data from a multitude of sources, transforms it, and then sends it to your favorite "stash."

This section describes how one can use it on UNIX to migrate data from a PostgreSQL database to elasticsearch.

How to self host an Open Street Map server (using Docker)

Here are the steps needed to run a self hosted Open Street Map server (using Docker):

  1. Download desired pbf files (like south-carolina-latest.osm.pbf) from https://download.geofabrik.de or just use the following empty planet below:

      <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
      <osm version="0.6" generator="osmconvert 0.8.8" timestamp="2019-10-23T20:18:02Z">
        <bounds minlat="42.4276" minlon="1.412368" maxlat="42.65717" maxlon="1.787481"/>
