Fedora 44 Cinnamon Developer Installation and Configuration Guide

Target system: Fedora Linux 44 Cinnamon Spin, regular DNF-managed install, x86_64 desktop.

This guide consolidates the Fedora setup we worked through: developer tools, NVIDIA drivers, Docker, Docker Desktop, local AI tools, IDEs, Google Chrome, automatic mounting for internal storage drives, Steam gaming support, webcam controls, system monitoring, Postman, Slack, AppImage handling, and a Brother HL-L2405W printer.

I'm just starting out with Docker so this is very much an entry-level attempt at setting up a development environment

Stack (and official Docker image links)

Nginx

sudo dnf install nginx -y

** NOTE ** When adding NGINX entries within RHEL, apparently you MUST checkout your code into the /var/www/ directory. I will update this once I learn why NINX entries can't point outside of of this directory.

Copy files to/from a remote server

The directory on the left is where you're coping FROM

Sharing Drives via Samba

Install the taskel and samba server packages
- sudo tasksel install samba-server
- sudo cp /etc/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf_backup

	Target system: Ubuntu Desktop 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon), standard GNOME desktop, x86-64/amd64 workstation.

	This guide is the Ubuntu-native conversion of the Fedora developer workstation walkthrough. It keeps the same general application stack and workflow while replacing Fedora-specific package management, RPM Fusion, SELinux, firewalld, RPM packages, and Nginx conventions with the appropriate Ubuntu equivalents.

	Ubuntu 26.04 LTS was released on April 23, 2026 and is supported with standard security and critical maintenance updates through April 2031.
