Emulating a Raspberry Pi with QEMU

Emulating a Raspberry Pi with QEMU

Goal: Emulate a Raspberry Pi with QEMU in order to run the Raspbian O/S (based on Debian Linux).

The current setup is not ideal. For one thing, the maximum RAM allowed using the "versatile-pb" firmware is 256 Mb. In addition, only the most basic peripherals, a keyboard and mouse, are supported.

A number of articles have been written on this topic. Most are outdated, and the few recent ones are missing key information.

Polkit rules for udisks, and udisks2. Compatible with udiskie and Dolphin.
// Original rules: https://github.com/coldfix/udiskie/wiki/Permissions
// Changes: Added org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount-system, as this is used by Dolphin.
polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {
var YES = polkit.Result.YES;
// NOTE: there must be a comma at the end of each line except for the last:
var permission = {
// required for udisks1:
"org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount": YES,
"org.freedesktop.udisks.luks-unlock": YES,

Make NixOS provide version-specific LOCALE_ARCHIVE environment variables

This NixOS code ensures that the system provide version-specific $LOCALE_ARCHIVE environment variables to mitigate the effects of NixOS/nixpkgs#38991.

To deploy it, copy the file into your /etc/nixos folder using a file name like multi-glibc-locale-paths.nix. Then edit your configuration.nix file to contain the attribute:

imports = [ ./multi-glibc-locale-paths.nix ];

NixOS: PCI Passthrough

PCI Passthrough

Warning: unfinished (but successfull!)

I did PCI passthrough on Archlinux and Debian with the old PCI-stub method (this was pre-4.0 era). And later I did PCI passthrough on the 4.1+ kernels on Arch and Ubuntu (16.10 I think?).

This is my attempt at doing the same on Nixos.

OpenVPN, rTorrent and Flood Docker Compose Configuration

The Setup

This is a docker-compose file for a simple, secure torrent setup. It includes [rTorrent] (a torrent client), [flood] (a web interface for rTorrent), [OpenVPN] (to tunnel traffic through your ISP) and a simple iptables firewall to allow rTorrent to only access the internet through a VPN.

To run everything, put your open vpn configuration file in ./vpn.ovpn and the other configuration files from this gist in a directory then go to that

Blog : Getting bluetooth headphones working on void linux with ALSA

I have a great little sub $20 bluetooth headset that I've been too lazy to get working on my laptop. I run Void Linux because for me systemd creates more headaches than it solves and I prefer minimalism for a machine beholden to a battery. Similarly I consider PulseAudioto have an unacceptable level of overhead for what it brings to the table. So my goal is to get my headphones working on my laptop with these constraints.

Unfortunately the [Bluetooh page of the Void Wiki][void-wiki] is less than useless. I should probably go back and add some stuff for them one of these days. Fortunately the [Bluetooth page of the Arch Wiki][arch] is more helpful, but not 100% precise.

You will need to install Bluez with # xpbs-install -Sy bluez and add yourself to the bluetooth group with the command # useradd -G bluetooth . You might want to log out and back in at this point. This way you can make sure your
