Install node on Apple Silicon M1 both ARM and x86 (Rosetta)

Node.js on Apple Silicon

Node Version Manager (https://github.com/nvm-sh/nvm) works perfectly across native node installations as well as emulated Rosetta installations. The trick I am using here is to install one LTS version of node under Rosetta and another stable version as native binary.

TODO

  • find a way how to run the same node version on both platforms

React Native Swift Module Singleton Pattern with Events Example

React Native Swift Module Singleton Pattern

If you are reading this tutorial please be aware that this is for advanced users that require a singleton pattern in their RN native module and some documentation detail is left out intentionally.

For the sake of this tutorial we will be using TestManager as our class.

Instructions

  1. First of all you need to setup a swift class with a bridging header, in Xcode it will generate this for you upon creating a Swift file.
  2. Create your swift class with the @objc directive.
  3. Create a second class that has a static export of the class in singleton.
  4. Follow the files below for a boilerplat example.

Configure Password Autofill on a React Native Expo app

Password Autofill on a React Native Expo app

Developing an app to accompany our website, worried that we would lose people in the transition if they couldn't remember their password, we were looking to make our app do Password AutoFill, a feature in iOS.

A talk from WWDC introducing the feature: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2017/206/

It works well, but there were a few bumps in the road making it work for React Native on Expo, so here are some notes to help out.

Apple's docs are here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/security/password_autofill and they say something like this:
