Improve visibility of Win11 22H2 context menu
  1. Download mssstyleEditor and install UxThemePatcher, then reboot.
  2. Open the msstyle to be patched, usually C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\colored\colored.msstyles or C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aero.msstyle, no need to make a backup, as the software wont overwrite the existing one.
  3. Replace the image of Part 27 in "Menu" and POPUPITEM in "ImmersiveStart::Menu".
  4. Change the FILLCOLOR of 2-Hot to white (0,0,0)
  5. Save the modified msstyles to somewhere else
  6. Make a copy of the system one
  7. Replace the system one
  8. Swith to the new theme, and done!

List of "Essential" 1.7.10 Mods

List of "Essential" 1.7.10 Mods

This is a list of Minecraft 1.7.10 mods that are not focused on adding new original content. Instead, they make the base game run better, or port over features from other versions of vanilla.

These lists try to comprehensively list all the available options. You will not want to use all of the listed mods at once.

Some of the listed mods require a Mixin bootstrap mod in order to work. See the Mixin mods section near the end of the document for information about that.

The Scummy Behavior of mods that act like modpacks

Introduction

Let me start by clarifying that the following doesn't exclusively apply to Debugify, but they serve as an excellent illustration of the heinous behavior outlined in the following. The mods in question shall therefore be collectively referred to as "Scummy Mods".

Scummy Mods are mods that incorporate or outright copy foreign code bases, without permission from the original author. They commonly state to either "replace" or "include" the original work, if any mention is given at all. Developing a mod is not easy. Many mod creators sacrifice significant chunks of their personal time and resources to their creations, essentially for free. Curseforge offers a symbolic compensation for the hours poured, but it's usually insignificant and just a nice bonus.

The Problem

The majority of the original projects are still in development. Since the creators behind Scummy Mods typically do not understand the code they copied to begin with, they lack the knowledge required to eliminate the bugs that will

A list of alternatives after the shutdown of Vanced

NONE OF THESE CLIENTS ARE VERIFIED BY ME FOR SECURITY OR ANYTHING ELSE! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Update 2025-07-16: Use either Revanced, NewPipe or Firefox with add-ons. Revanced is my personal pick, due to it being a mod of the official App like Vanced, but better (e.g. it has integration of Sponsor Block, Return YouTube Disklike and more).

I wouldn't recommend Kiwi Browser anymore as it has been discontinued. AFAIK it has been accuired by Microsoft and the extension support has been merged into Edge (Canary). But you'd have to use Edge. Yuck.

Fixing "Etag download for http://export.mcpbot.bspk.rs/versions.json failed with code 522" in old ForgeGradle

MCPBot is finally dead, and so goes with it every old version of ForgeGradle. Hope you're not maintaining any 1.7-1.12 mods anymore (or, god forbid, 1.6)! Because if you do, nobody will help you, and if you ask you will be banned from all official Forge channels. Fun fun fun. Game over.

...Or not. Someone asked ArchiveBot to rescue the MCPBot exports, and a WARC file containing a seemingly complete archive is available for download. And, these old ForgeGradle versions download mappings over plain HTTP, not HTTPS!

Some context

I maintain Ears, a mod available for too many versions of Minecraft, and it uses old versions of ForgeGradle to build the 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9-1.11, and 1.12 ports. Because reengineering these old versions of ForgeGradle is a huge goddamn wa

Why you shouldn't use cardboard, banner or any other "hybrid" server

By looking that you are here you most likely use Cardboard/Banner/some other weird bukkit + Fabric project (or just someone linked to it).

Don't do it, it will cause more harm/instabilities to your server than good. But let's start at the beginning.

Few definitions before we start:

  • Bukkit - It means bukkit, spigot, paper and any forks of these,
  • Cardboard - mod by IsaiahPatton that tries to port bukkit ecosystem to fabric.
  • Banner - another mod trying to make plugins work with Fabric, similar to Cardboard.
  • Fabric - a Minecraft modding platform, includes Fabric Loader and Fabric API, everything written in this gist also applies to Quilt.
  • Mods - Mods designed for fabric and compatible platforms

CarbonGhost's recommended OptiFine alternatives

CarbonGhost's OptiFine alternatives

This is my personal list of OptiFine replacements. Although other lists exist, this list aims to be an simple feature replacement list that aims not to overwhelm you.

This list was written with 1.18 and 1.17 in mind, but many mods should still be available for 1.16 and 1.15. The critiques of OptiFine aren't relevant to a specific version of the game.
