Find the most recent Ubuntu AMI using aws-cli (or any other AMI for that matter)
#!/bin/sh
# Use AWS CLI to get the most recent version of an AMI that
# matches certain criteria. Has obvious uses. Made possible via
# --query, --output text, and the fact that RFC3339 datetime
# fields are easily sortable.

  1. Humans build and fix systems.
  2. Humans get tired and stressed, they feel happy and sad.
  3. Systems don't have feelings yet. They only have SLAs.
  4. Humans need to switch off and on again.
  5. The wellbeing of human operators impacts the reliability of systems.
  6. Alert Fatigue == Human Fatigue
  7. Automate as much as possible, escalate to a human as a last resort.
  8. Document everything. Train everyone. Save time.
  9. Kill the shame game.
  10. Human issues are system issues.

Redis Debugging Tips

Debugging Redis Keyspace Misses

Simply put, a keyspace "MISS" means some piece of data you tried to retrieve from Redis was not there. This usually means that one of the following things happened:

  1. The key expired
  2. They key was renamed
  3. The key was deleted
  4. The key was evicted due to memory pressure
  5. The entire database was flushed
  6. The key was never actually inserted

AWS EBS - Find unused snapshots

This script can help you find and remove unused AWS snapshots and volumes.

There is hardcoded list of regions that it searches, adjust the value to suit your needs.

Use snapshot.py snapshot-report to generate report.csv containing information about all snapshots.

snapshot.py snapshot-cleanup lets you interactively delete snapshot if it finds it is referencing unexisting resources.

./snapshots.py --help
