Auto-renewing Lets Encrypt certificates for Rancher 1.6

Lets Encrypt has removed their ACME V1 api in favor of ACME V2. The Rancher 1.6 catalog entry for Lets Encrypt certificates doesn't support this api. There is a forked version of the repo, however the service has to be created manually instead of from the catalog.

  1. Create a new service, give it a name, use vxcontrol/rancher-letsencrypt:v1.0.0 for the image
  2. In the "Volumes" tab, add a volume /var/lib/rancher:/var/lib/rancher
  3. In the "Command" tab, set the "Console" option to none
  4. Click to add an Environment Variable, and paste the following into the first "Variable" input field.
  • All of the environment variables should auto-fill.
  • Fill in the necessary values

Setting an OpenWrt / LEDE Based Router as OpenVPN Client

These instructions should work for Streisand as well for others VPN providers (Streisand is a Software that automatically configures a VPS online server with OpenVPN and other VPN/Proxy Softwares in order to have a private VPN Server)

These instructions are for getting an OpenWrt Based Router working as OpenVPN Client (should work for LEDE, Gargoyle and another distributions). Computers connected to Lan Ports of the OpenWrt Router will navigate through the Internet connection of the OpenVPN Server (in this case the Streisand one previously set up) you need a working Router with OpenWrt based firmware flashed on it (LEDE or eko.one.pl could also work) steps works well on Chaos Calmer 15.05 or 15.05.1.

  1. You need to telnet 192.168.1.1 (OpenWrt Router) and set up a password using passwd You can skip this if you already have a password and can connect using ssh.

Linux on MacBook Pro Late 2016 and Mid 2017 (with Touchbar)

Introduction

This is about documenting getting Linux running on the late 2016 and mid 2017 MPB's; the focus is mostly on the MacBookPro13,3 and MacBookPro14,3 (15inch models), but I try to make it relevant and provide information for MacBookPro13,1, MacBookPro13,2, MacBookPro14,1, and MacBookPro14,2 (13inch models) too. I'm currently using Fedora 27, but most the things should be valid for other recent distros even if the details differ. The kernel version is 4.14.x (after latest update).

The state of linux on the MBP (with particular focus on MacBookPro13,2) is also being tracked on https://github.com/Dunedan/mbp-2016-linux . And for Ubuntu users there are a couple tutorials (here and here) focused on that distro and the MacBook.

Note: For those who have followed these instructions ealier, and in particular for those who have had problems with the custom DSDT, modifying the DSDT is not necessary anymore - se

Migrating a Rails project from MySQL to PostgreSQL

Migrating a Rails project from MySQL to PostgreSQL

This brief guide is written from my own experience with migrating a large (~5GB) MySQL database to PostgreSQL for a Rails project.

No warranties, guarantees, support etc. Use at your own risk and, as always, ENSURE YOU MAKE BACKUPS FIRST!

I chose [pgloader][1] because it's extremely fast. YMMV.

  1. Replace mysql2 gem with pg in Gemfile.
  2. Update config/database.yml for PostgreSQL. I used [Rails' template][2] as a starting point.
