My set of GarlicOS tips #rg35xx

Garlic OS Tips (Windows-based)

GarlicOS Cookbook

Follow these instructions for an easy way to get up and going quickly! These are complete instructions, and will be the easiest way to get started on a new RG35XX.

Set up SD Card

Get a high quality SD (e.g. SanDisk Extreme) card, 128GB or larger, 256GB is recommended. Don't skimp here, they're cheap, and don't use the card that comes with the RG35XX as it's crap.

PS3 Linux / NetBSD 6.0 HDD Partition Expansion

Cloning (and expanding) a 60GB PS3 HDD to a 320GB HDD

These are the steps that were taken to clone a 60GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) HDD to a 320GB HDD, and then expand the USERDATA partition to the full size of the new disk using a NetBSD VM.

Clone the Drive

The original 60GB HDD was cloned to an image using ddrescue.

Original disk: /dev/loop0 (mounted 60GB HDD image file) New Disk: /dev/sdd (320GB HDD)

FreeBSD installation on OVH VPS

FreeBSD installation on OVH VPS

OVH now offers FreeBSD as a distro choice, however you might still want to install a specific version yourself or choose another root filesystem. In such case - this guide is for you.

This guide explains how to install the FreeBSD on OVH VPS. This might also work for other VPS providers with the proper rescue system in place.

Arch Linux with ZFS root, zfs-dkms, ZFSBootMenu, and Secure Boot enabled (nothing changed compared to the upstream - last merged upstream revision 2024-02-22)

Install Arch Linux with ZFS root filesystem, zfs-dkms, ZFSBootMenu, Pacman Auto-snapshots, Secure Boot enabled

Configure system BIOS

Disable Secure Boot. ZFS modules can not be loaded if Secure Boot is enabled.

ZFS automated install script

Before moving on I need to point out that there exists a script that can automate the configuration and install of a ZFS root system. However as convenient as it sounds the script is limited in flexibility and scope. These limitation cannot be overcome unless one has the time and compacity to edit the script to their liking. If you want to install a ZFS root system as quickly as possible and don't care about any particulars than take a good look at this github page.
