Secure private web server with NodeJS

This article will explain how to set up a secure web server with NodeJS which only accepts connection from users with SSL certificates that you have signed. This is an efficient way to ensure that no other people are able to access the web server, without building a login system which will be significantly weaker.

I will not explain how to create a certificate authority (CA), create certificates or sign them. If you need to read up on this, have a look at this excelent article on how to do it with OpenSSL (Mac and Linux): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSSL#Practical_OpenSSL_Usage It is also possible to do this on a Mac with the keychain application, and I assume it is possible on a Windows machine aswell.

Ubuntu 12.04 Ruby on Rails Development Environment

I haven't set up an install guide for the latest ubuntu release, largely because the last set of instructions worked pretty closely with the latest and greatest Ubuntu, 12.04 Precise Pangolin, however when installing today, I found that there were enough differences in the way that I configure my setup to justify an update, so here it goes. Yes, I'm late to the party, but a quick google search didn't find anything that I felt was as complete for my requirements as my previous install guides, so here I go.

As always with my install guides, I have included here is just about everything you'll need (and then some) to get started with ruby on rails development with Ubuntu 12.04 as a platform. These are my settings and preferences, and this is certainly not the only way of doing things, so keep that in mind.

Step 1: Get the repos ready and run updates.

MVVM (Model View ViewModel) is an architectural pattern based on MVC and MVP, which attempts to more clearly separate the development of user-interfaces (UI) from that of the business logic and behaviour in an application. To this end, many implementations of this pattern make use of declarative data bindings to allow a separation of work on Views from other layers.

This facilitates UI and development work occurring almost simultaneously within the same codebase. UI developers write bindings to the ViewModel within their document markup (HTML), where the Model and ViewModel are maintained by developers working on the logic for the application.
