I use tmux splits (panes). Inside one of these panes there's a Vim process, and it has its own splits (windows).
In Vim I have key bindings C-h/j/k/l set to switch windows in the given direction. (Vim default mappings for windows switching are the same, but prefixed with C-W.) I'd like to use the same keystrokes for switching tmux panes.
An extra goal that I've solved with a dirty hack is to toggle between last active panes with C-\.
Here's how it should work:
| set nocompatible " Disable vi-compatibility | |
| set t_Co=256 | |
| colorscheme xoria256 | |
| set guifont=menlo\ for\ powerline:h16 | |
| set guioptions-=T " Removes top toolbar | |
| set guioptions-=r " Removes right hand scroll bar | |
| set go-=L " Removes left hand scroll bar | |
| set linespace=15 |
| " Don't try to be vi compatible | |
| set nocompatible | |
| " Helps force plugins to load correctly when it is turned back on below | |

| " TODO: Load plugins here (pathogen or vundle) | |
| " Turn on syntax highlighting | |
| syntax on |
These are my notes basically. At first i created this gist just as a reminder for myself. But feel free to use this for your project as a starting point. If you have questions you can find me on twitter @thomasf https://twitter.com/thomasf This is how i used it on a Debian Wheezy testing (https://www.debian.org/releases/testing/)
