What I did to get Python 3.4.2 on Ubuntu 14.04. The stock version of Python 3 on Ubuntu is 3.4.0. Which is missing some of the best parts! (asyncio, etc). Luckily I discovered pyenv which solved my problem.

Install pyenv

Pyenv (not to be confused with pyvenv) is the Python equivelant of rbenv. It lets you configure which Python environment/version is available per directory, user, or other session variables.

I followed the instructions here to install pyenv in my home directory. Verbatem, those instructions are:

sudo apt-get install git python-pip make build-essential libssl-dev zlib1g-dev libbz2-dev libreadline-dev libsqlite3-dev

AWS ELB with Node.js and WebSockets

This assumes that:

You are using Nginx.
You want to accept incoming connections on port 80.
Your Node.js app is listening on port 3000.
You want to be able to connect to your Node.js instance directly as well as via the load balancer.

io.js - what you need to know

io is a fork of node v0.12 (the next stable version of node.js, currently unreleased)
io.js will be totally compatible with node.js
the people who created io.js are node core contributors who have different ideas on how to run the project
it is not a zero-sum game. many core contributors will help maintain both node.js and io.js

This article is written to explain how the above gif works in the chrome (and other) browser consoles. A quick disclaimer: this whole thing is a huge hack, it shouldn't be used for anything seriously, and there are probably much better ways of accomplishing the same.

Update: There are much better ways of accomplishing the same, and the script has been updated to use a much simpler method pulling directly from browserify-cdn. See this thread for details: mathisonian/requirify#5
