Exposing a directory on the host machine to an LXC container

Log into the container and create an empty directory, this will be the mount point
Log out and stop the container.
Open to your container's config file
- For regular LXC containers: /var/lib/lxc/mycontainer/config
- For unprivileged LXC containers: $HOME/.local/share/lxc/mycontainer/config
Add a new line above the lxc.mount directive, that follows the format below. Substitute proper paths as necessary:
- lxc.mount.entry = /path/to/folder/on/host /path/to/mount/point none bind 0 0

Both of these paths are relative to the host machine.

nix-shell and Shebang Lines

A few days ago, version 1.9 of the Nix package manager was released. From the release notes:

nix-shell can now be used as a #!-interpreter. This allows you to write scripts that dynamically fetch their own dependencies.

For those that want to keep the YTS going (No, IDGAF about people that don't care for YTS quality) get HandbrakeCLI https://handbrake.fr/downloads... and use the following settings:

Reason to use CLI over GTK has to do with lack of support for advanced settings for Handbrake GTK

Nix seems perfect for developers - until I try to use it...

Want to use Nix for development but you're not sure how? Concerned about the fluidity of nixpkgs channels or not being able to easily install arbitrary package versions?

When I first heard about Nix it seemed like the perfect tool for a developer. When I tried to actually use it for developing and deploying web apps, though, the pieces just didn't seem to add up.

Installation of NixOS with encrypted root

These are my notes on instaling NixOS 16.03 on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (4th generation) with an encrypted root file system using UEFI.

With the release of Vivaldi 2.2, this page is now obsolete and unmaintained. Widevine is fetched automatically on post install of our official packages. The information below and the script are left for historical reasons but will not be updated.

If you are using something newer than Vivaldi 2.2, you should not be using this script as there is simply no need. Any need you think you have for it would be a bug IMHO and thus should be logged in a bug report. Before you do so however, you should also checkout the Vivaldi help page on Widevine, on Linux

This was tested on a ThinkPad P70 laptop with an Intel integrated graphics and an NVIDIA GPU:

A reason to use the integrated graphics for display is if installing the NVIDIA drivers causes the display to stop working properly. In my case, Ubuntu would get stuck in a login loop after installing the NVIDIA drivers. This happened regardless if I installed the drivers from the "Additional Drivers" tab in "System Settings" or the ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa in the command-line.
