Haskell VS Groovy
// This is a comparison between Haskell and Groovy based on some simple problems found in the following
// Haskell Introduction:
// http://learnyouahaskell.com/starting-out#ready-set-go
// Ex 1. If we have two lists, [2,5,10] and [8,10,11] and we want to get the products of all the possible
// combinations between numbers in those lists, here's what we'd do.
/* HASKELL */
[ x*y | x <- [2,5,10], y <- [8,10,11]]

A simple way to pretty print nested lists and maps in Groovy.
import static groovy.json.JsonOutput.*
def config = ['test': 'lalala']
println prettyPrint(toJson(config))

A Groovy script that takes a CSV filePath (string), and turns it into a List of Maps (via groovycsv lib).
@Grab('com.xlson.groovycsv:groovycsv:1.0')
import com.xlson.groovycsv.CsvParser
// a normally parsed csv can only be searched through ONCE
// this is used to create a "re-searchable" object (List of Maps)
List<Map> csv2List( String filePath, boolean shouldTrim = true, String charset = 'UTF-8' ) {
new File( filePath ).withReader(charset) { r ->
new CsvParser().parse( r ).with { csv ->
return csv.collect { line ->
line.columns.collectEntries { c, v ->

An automated solver for 2048

Automated solver for 2048

This is a script which runs a "bot" that tries to solve the incredibly addictive 2048 game. It makes use of Groovy and browser automation with Geb.

How to

  • First step, if you don’t have it, you need to install Groovy.

  • Second step is to install the Google Chrome WebDriver (just unzip the appropriate file to a local directory)

  • Next, edit the script to set the path to the Chrome Driver

  • then execute the script: groovy solver2048.groovy

How to proxy web apps using nginx?

Virtual Hosts on nginx (CSC309)

When hosting our web applications, we often have one public IP address (i.e., an IP address visible to the outside world) using which we want to host multiple web apps. For example, one may wants to host three different web apps respectively for example1.com, example2.com, and example1.com/images on the same machine using a single IP address.

How can we do that? Well, the good news is Internet browsers
