Event-stream based GraphQL subscriptions for real-time updates

In this gist I would like to describe an idea for GraphQL subscriptions. It was inspired by conversations about subscriptions in the GraphQL slack channel and different GH issues, like #89 and #411.

Conceptual Model

At the moment GraphQL allows 2 types of queries:

  • query
  • mutation

Reference implementation also adds the third type: subscription. It does not have any semantics yet, so here I would like to propose one possible semantics interpretation and the reasoning behind it.

#!/bin/bash
# Put this in /hooks/after_prepare/
PLIST=platforms/ios/*/*-Info.plist
cat << EOF |
Add :NSAppTransportSecurity dict
Add :NSAppTransportSecurity:NSAllowsArbitraryLoads bool YES
Add :NSAppTransportSecurity:NSExceptionDomains:facebook.com:NSIncludesSubdomains bool YES
Add :NSAppTransportSecurity:NSExceptionDomains:facebook.com:NSThirdPartyExceptionRequiresForwardSecrecy bool NO

Using Github Deploy Key

What / Why

Deploy key is a SSH key set in your repo to grant client read-only (as well as r/w, if you want) access to your repo.

As the name says, its primary function is to be used in the deploy process in replace of username/password, where only read access is needed. Therefore keep the repo safe from the attack, in case the server side is fallen.

How to

  1. Generate a ssh key

protractor coverage support with gulp and istanbul (not tested, this is just extracted from larger files to demonstrate how to get protractor coverage working)
var istanbul = require('istanbul'),
gulp = require('gulp'),
istanbul = require('gulp-istanbul');
gulp.task('js', function() {
return gulp.src('js')
.pipe(istanbul({
includeUntested: true,
coverageVariable: '__coverage__'
}))

  • io is a fork of node v0.12 (the next stable version of node.js, currently unreleased)
  • io.js will be totally compatible with node.js
  • the people who created io.js are node core contributors who have different ideas on how to run the project
  • it is not a zero-sum game. many core contributors will help maintain both node.js and io.js

Javascript micro-optimizations
NOTE: This document is OLD - and most of the tips here are probably outdated, since newer versions of Javascript have been
released over the years - with newer optimizations and more emphasis on optimizing newly supported syntax.
