For converting adium logs to decently sexy HTML

adium log export to HTML

this shit is for exporting this weirdass xml out into some sane HTML.

  • run rename.sh to kill the whitespaces in your xml filenames
    • alternatively fix my htmlify.sh to not break on whitespace'd filenames
      • UPDATE: check this comment on a quick fix to avoid this rename script. BOOM! thx @kwef!
  • run htmlify.sh
    • htmlify has a hardcoded destination directory.
  • htmlify also expects the format-html.* files to be up one folder from it.

SLEEP - syncable.org

Your API does REST, but can it SLEEP?

SLEEP (Syncable Lightweight Event Emitting Persistence) is an emerging standard for distributed data sync using HTTP and JSON. A generalized version of CouchDB's much lauded built-in replication, SLEEP extends the REST architecture to define a way in which databases can offer syncable JSON APIs that foster open data innovation by allowing developers to replicate entire databases over the net.

SLEEP comes from the Apache CouchDB project which is now widely known for it's multi-master streaming HTTP + JSON replication. This is possible in part because of the CouchDB _changes feed, which is a particular API that lets you see if there have been any changes made to the database since last time you synchronized. CouchDB can efficiently implement the _changes feed because of one subtle difference between it and most other databases: it stores a history of all changes that happen to the database, including deletes.

If you synchronize data from a remote source and then the

nginx, flask, and file downloads
Okay so here's the setup:
[-] The primary server API is exposed via Flask (Python) and all static files, including all html, css, js is served by nginx.
[-] Python is exposing an API at url http://domain.com/api/download/<file_id>, where file_id is a database id for the file that we're interested in downloading.
1. User wants to download a file, so we spawn a new window with the url '/api/download/<file_id>'
2. Nginx intercepts the request, sees that it starts with /api/, and then forwards the request to Flask, which is being served on port 5000.
3. Flask routes the request to its download method, retrieves the pertinent data from the file_id, and constructs additional header settings to make nginx happy and to force the browser to see the file stream as a download request instead of the browser just trying to open the file in a new window. Flask then returns the modified header stream to nginx
4. Nginx is finally ready to do some work. While parsing the headers for the incoming request, it encounters "X
