A Simple Git branching model

a simple git branching model

This is a very simple git workflow. It (and variants) is in use by many people. I settled on it after using it very effectively at Athena. GitHub does something similar; Zach Holman mentioned it in this talk.

Whiteboard Picture Cleaner - Shell one-liner/script to clean up and beautify photos of whiteboards!

Description

This simple script will take a picture of a whiteboard and use parts of the ImageMagick library with sane defaults to clean it up tremendously.

The script is here:

#!/bin/bash
convert "$1" -morphology Convolve DoG:15,100,0 -negate -normalize -blur 0x1 -channel RBG -level 60%,91%,0.1 "$2"

Results

#include <unistd.h>
#include <node.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <v8.h>
using namespace v8;
unsigned long long count = 0;
// native blocking/compute intensive function

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)

Quick recap/commentary: Clojure transducers
(comment ; Fun with transducers, v2
;; Still haven't found a brief + approachable overview of Clojure 1.7's new
;; transducers in the particular way I would have preferred myself - so here goes:
;;;; Definitions
;; Looking at the `reduce` docstring, we can define a 'reducing-fn' as:
(fn reducing-fn ([]) ([accumulation next-input])) -> new-accumulation
;; (The `[]` arity is actually optional; it's only used when calling
;; `reduce` w/o an init-accumulator).

Using Erlang observer/appmon remotely

Using OTP's observer (appmon replacement) remotely

$ ssh remote-host "epmd -names"
epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data:
name some_node at port 58769

Note the running on port for epmd itself and the port of the node you're interested in debugging. Reconnect to the remote host with these ports forwarded:

$ ssh -L 4369:localhost:4369 -L 58769:localhost:58769 remote-host
