Mixing Recordings

Working with Twilio Room Recordings

The following guide will show you how to mix several audio and video tracks together, forming a grid. For this example, we will use two video and two audio tracks. The video tracks will be placed side by side in a 1024x768 output file.

UPDATE - Video Recording Compositions API is out!

Yes! No ned to go through this process alone anymore. We've recently released the Twilio Recording Composition API. This API will allow you to compose and transcode you Room Recordings. You can find the reference docs here

Compile FFmpeg on Ubuntu

This basic guide supports Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 and will enable several external encoding and decoding libraries: libfaac (AAC encoder), libfdk-aac (AAC encoder), libmp3lame (MP3 encoder), libopencore-amr (AMR encoder/decoder), librtmp (for additional RTMP protocols), libtheora (Theora encoder), libvorbis (Vorbis encoder), libvpx (VP8 encoder/decoder), and libx264 (H.264 encoder). These are optional and may be omitted if desired. This guide will also install many filters (see the filter list in the [Filtering Guide][1].

Note: Copy and paste the whole code box for each step.

This is a proposal for a lightning talk at the Reactive 2016 conference. If you like this, star the Gist.

Thinking metrics on React applications

In regular websites, it is common to send multiple events to track user clicks. Single Page Applications change the way you look at metrics. This is a talk about a simple pattern we created at Globo.com to manage a metrics layer for http://globoplay.globo.com. The talk will cover how to track user flow using Google Analytics and other services. We solved the challenge of tying metrics and components, keeping information across pages and having global data. Also some React, React Router and React Side Effects concepts like context, higher order components, history state will be covered.

3 hidden CSS tips

1. Use empty-cells to style table empty cells:

Surprisingly the browser support is quite good and extends back to IE8. Convenient to give less visual predominance to empty cells.

table {
  empty-cells: hide;

/**
* This Google Sheets script keeps data in the specified column sorted any time
* the data changes.
*
* After much research, there wasn't an easy way to automatically keep a column
* sorted in Google Sheets, and creating a second sheet to act as a "view" to
* my primary one in order to achieve that was not an option. Instead, I
* created a script that watches for when a cell is edited and triggers
* an auto sort.

Spinning globe with glowing city markers in D3

A Spinning globe with glowing city markers in D3.

Note: This visualization constantly recalculates and reprojects the position of over 4000 markers and thus needs a lot of computation power. Older computer and mobile devices might struggle with the rendering process. Furthermore the visualization is only optimized for Chrome browsers and might look different than expected when opened in other browsers.

Inspired by Curran Kelleher's idea to plot a world map in D3 by using the GeoNames database as seen in his great Introdction to D3 video.
