Code is clean if it can be understood easily – by everyone on the team. Clean code can be read and enhanced by a developer other than its original author. With understandability comes readability, changeability, extensibility and maintainability.

General rules

Follow standard conventions.
Keep it simple stupid. Simpler is always better. Reduce complexity as much as possible.
Boy scout rule. Leave the campground cleaner than you found it.
Always find root cause. Always look for the root cause of a problem.

Design rules

Shortcut — Action

CTRL + A — Move to the beginning of the line
CTRL + E — Move to the end of the line
CTRL + [left arrow] — Move one word backward (on some systems this is ALT + B)
CTRL + [right arrow] — Move one word forward (on some systems this is ALT + F)
CTRL + U — (bash) Clear the characters on the line before the current cursor position
CTRL + U —(zsh) If you're using the zsh, this will clear the entire line
CTRL + K — Clear the characters on the line after the current cursor position
ESC + [backspace] — Delete the word in front of the cursor

Theory:

your git repository can have more than one remote server; In this case we want to have two:

one for our private repository on gitlab (will be the default one, called origin)
one to be connected to the source repo on github, to be able to pull new changes (will be called upstream)

How to make a private fork from github to gitlab

I use tmux splits (panes). Inside one of these panes there's a Vim process, and it has its own splits (windows).

In Vim I have key bindings C-h/j/k/l set to switch windows in the given direction. (Vim default mappings for windows switching are the same, but prefixed with C-W.) I'd like to use the same keystrokes for switching tmux panes.

An extra goal that I've solved with a dirty hack is to toggle between last active panes with C-\.
