Converting to SQLite

Importing the spatially-explicit tables (TMsch.csv and TMlea.csv, in the form of simple lat/long coordinates) into QGIS via the'Add Delimited Text Layer' plugin, allows for a first look at the data. Selecting 'Save layer as vector file..' from the Layers menu. In the dialog box, select the following parameters:

Format: SQLite
Encoding: UTF-8
CRS: Google Mercator EPSG:900913

Import the non-spatial .csv tables into SQLite database files using a database inspector like Base or from the command line using SQL for SQLite. Be sure to import all six tables into one database.

Hola RECIPIENT NAME,

Hi,

We have been working hard to get CITY well mapped on Open Street Map. Open Street Map is like the wikipedia of maps, relying on contributions from an active and growing community of users. Learn more about Open Street Map here.

We have been busy tracing streets, but would like to be able to add street names in order to really complete the map. What data or map sources are available for getting street names? Any format would be helpful: shapefiles, pdf, etc., so long as there is no problem making the data available for public use. Thanks,

As an immersive experience in a foreign land, the WWHGD-WG was certainly educational. It was fun and challenging to think about where MapBox fit into a landscape of mostly federal government agencies whose only notion of open source was "data not published by me", to steal the conclusion of one conversation I had.

But then Nigel Snoad from google.org made a strong showing at the end of the day and wooed the audience talking about google tools to support layer switching of user generated content + sourcing local knowledge using MyMaps, all while mushing mention of MapMaker + OSM into a passing comment. Given how popular his talk was and how little alternative/real open source tools were discussed, there is huge space for Mapbox to really disrupt a lot of entrenched paradigmatic thinking around open data and user generated content in this community.

##An Open Mapping Tool Chain

The process of adding data to OpenStreetMap to styling and publishing your maps online is not obvious at first. I'll walk though the open source tool chain we use to contribute to OSM, and how to use TileMill to leverage OSM data to build custom maps. Specifically I will share some of our recent experience over the past several weeks of tracing in Brazil and publishing maps online. I will share specifics on how to get started tracing roads and buildings from satellite imagery in a few minutes to how we actively engage local communities and working with local governments to open large datasets and import them to OpenStreetMap. Finally I will end showing how how to turn an OSM export into a map and publish it on your web site.
