Testing the Windows screenreader NVDA on a Mac

How to test NVDA screen reader behaviour on a Mac:

  1. Download Microsoft Edge VM from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/
  2. Download Virtualbox and import the Edge VM image.

Then in the VM:

  1. Install guest addons in the VM
  2. Download & install latest NVDA from nvaccess.org
  3. Download & install SharpKeys and use it to map left an alternative key (eg. Left Ctrl) to the Insert key. This is needed because Macs do not typically have an “Insert” key which is the prefix for many NVDA commands.

Array.prototype
.slice.apply(document.querySelectorAll('.js-subscription-row'))
.forEach(el => { const org = el.querySelector('a[href^="/YOUR_ORG"]'); if (org) el.querySelector('button').click()});

Demo

How to install

  1. Get fzf
  2. Install all-the-package-names globally: npm i -g all-the-package-names
  3. Add the following alias to your .bashrc: alias npmi = 'all-the-package-names | fzf | xargs npm install'

How to use

Just use npmi instead of npm i <package-name>. All options work (--save, -g etc).

Practical Computer Science Fundamentals

Practical Computer Science Fundamentals

CompSci degrees cost a lot of money, take a lot of time, and aren't a viable option for a lot of folks. Luckily, much of what you'll learn in a proper Computer Science program can be self-taught online for free. This gist is a roundup of some of the most helpful resources I've found.

Where I'm coming from

I'm not pursuing a deep, academic comprehension of CS concepts — my goal is to become respectably conversant about the most prevalent and relevant subjects in the field.

Starting points

statement on event-stream compromise

Hey everyone - this is not just a one off thing, there are likely to be many other modules in your dependency trees that are now a burden to their authors. I didn't create this code for altruistic motivations, I created it for fun. I was learning, and learning is fun. I gave it away because it was easy to do so, and because sharing helps learning too. I think most of the small modules on npm were created for reasons like this. However, that was a long time ago. I've since moved on from this module and moved on from that thing too and in the process of moving on from that as well. I've written way better modules than this, the internet just hasn't fully caught up.

@broros

otherwise why would he hand over a popular package to a stranger?

If it's not fun anymore, you get literally nothing from maintaining a popular package.

One time, I was working as a dishwasher in a restu
