Useful emoji for git commit messages

Useful emoji for git commit messages

If you add emoji to your commit messages for a GitHub repo, they become less boring, and you can convey the kind of change you're adding. See the full set of GitHub supported emoji here (also useful for easy copy&paste via a simple click).

Example commit message

The following is a possible scheme to use:

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)

Easily setup an Android development environment on a Mac

Here is a high level overview for what you need to do to get most of an Android environment setup and maintained.

Prerequisites (for Homebrew at a minimum, lots of other tools need these too):

  • XCode is installed (via the App Store)
  • XCode command line tools are installed (xcode-select --install will prompt up a dialog)
  • Java

Install Homebrew:

ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.github.com/Homebrew/homebrew/go/install)"

// Get the template HTML and remove it from the doument.
var previewNode = document.querySelector("#template");
previewNode.id = "";
var previewTemplate = previewNode.parentNode.innerHTML;
previewNode.parentNode.removeChild(previewNode);
var myDropzone = new Dropzone(document.body, { // Make the whole body a dropzone
url: "/target-url", // Set the url
thumbnailWidth: 80,
thumbnailHeight: 80,
<!-- HTML heavily inspired by http://blueimp.github.io/jQuery-File-Upload/ -->
<div class="table table-striped" class="files" id="previews">
<div id="template" class="file-row">
<!-- This is used as the file preview template -->
<div>
<span class="preview"><img data-dz-thumbnail /></span>
</div>
<div>
<p class="name" data-dz-name></p>

Frequently Used PhpStorm Keyboard Shortcuts

Note: Some of these shortcuts have been remapped for my own convenience (Preferences->Keymap). These are Mac shortcuts, just use the Windows/Linux equivalent of the Cmd/Option/Ctrl/Del keys.

####Search, Go to, Navigation ####

Cmd + P - Search file

Cmd + Shift + O - Search everywhere

(I swapped the above two recently because I use Cmd + P to search for files most of the time).
