Identify areas where you might place barriers on yourself in terms of the job search
- One area that I would place a barrier would be speaking confidently if asked to to a code challenge. Mostly out of being nervous to get a question wrong.
- Another area that may be a barrier for me would be negotiations. I don't think I have enough of an idea or practice wich makes me incredibly nervous
-
Devise an action plan to overcome those barriers
- Making sure that I'm prepared and ready to tackle the challenge and speak confidently. Keep in ming technical terms that can help elevate my technical vocabulary to make it clear I understand the subject.
- Make sure to reach out to people who have done some negotiation and getting feedback.
-
Create an updated action plan for your job search (you will use this plan when meeting with Meg)
- After meeting with meg she gave me this feedback to fix up my resume and linked in for job hunting
- Meg feed back
- Projects
- Follow skills with a project section that includes 2-3 of your favorite projects
- Answer the following questions-
- What problem does it solve?
- What does it allow the user to do?
- What is the high level overview of the project?
- What stack is this app built in?
- If you worked in a group, what was your focus?
- Deploy and repository with clickable web addresses
-
Envision your longterm career path to align your job search
- My main goal is to make sure I find a job that really helps to shape me into a well rounded developer. I want to be able to work at a place for a good amount of time and eventually trying to be fully remote so I can move around more freely.
-
How has your job search gone during this module?
- Alot of the poeple who have responded to me give me a similar response which goes along the lines of "When you get out here(Seattle), send me a message and we can meet up for coffee/office tour"
-
Did you find that you were able to use the plan you outlined at the end of Module 3?
- Kind of, I made an idealistic plan and followed some of it, but was not as didligent as I would have liked.
-
Where have you focused your priorities?
- My top priority is to get some good connections in Seattle that I can follow up with.
-
What's been successful for you?
- Usually it's been a numbers game. The more pople I reach out to the better my chances are at getting some responses back.
Whole Group Shareout: 2-3 partners share out
-
What strategies have been successful?
- Being diligent and making sure to stick to a plan of sending a certain number of outreaches a day.
-
What got in the way?
- Myself usually, It;s hard to stay on track 100% of the time with how busy we are here at Turing.
- Barriers to your Job Search
- I think one of the biggest barriers I have id being confident in what I am doing. I think interviewing will be very difficult for me, but I have been working on mock stuff to get more comfortable with termanology and speaking confidently.
-
What do you envision for your career?
- Somewhere that I feel like I can grow as a developer and be comfortable.
-
What do you want your 2nd and 3rd jobs to look like?
- I think as long as I keep on gowing and learning in this field I will be happy.
-
How do you want to be involved with the Turing community? The greater developer community?
- I would really like to reach out to young girls who have an interest in coding and encourage them to follow this path.
-
Where do your passions lie?
- I think definitely in community service and in design. Before Turing I was a designer, so I thinkI would really like to work for a place where I can be creative.
-
How to complete this plan:
- Job Search Plan
- Bump up my 4 cold outreaches a week to 6.
- Focus all of my attention in Seattle
- Follow up with the people who agreed to meet up with me as soon as I get to Seattle.
- Keep up with my Trello board to make sure I remember all possible jobs I would like to apply for.
