Clean up the statusbar of an iOS screenshot. The time in the statusbar is maintained, but all other graphics are stripped out and replaced with graphics that show full battery and signal strength. The cellular provider is replaced with the Apple logo, . All graphics are built into the script, which works for any Retina iOS device in any orienta…

A new user's guide to SublimeText 2. Estimated reading time: 2 mins. Estimated workthrough time: 12 minutes.

Make it useful

  • Install Package Control. For SublimeText 2, paste the following in Terminal:
import urllib2,os; pf='Package Control.sublime-package'; ipp = sublime.installed_packages_path(); os.makedirs( ipp ) if not os.path.exists(ipp) else None; urllib2.install_opener( urllib2.build_opener( urllib2.ProxyHandler( ))); open( os.path.join( ipp, pf), 'wb' ).write( urllib2.urlopen( 'http://sublime.wbond.net/' +pf.replace( ' ','%20' )).read()); print( 'Please restart Sublime Text to finish installation')

From here on out, use Package Control to install everything. +Shift+P, then type Install to get a list of installable packages you can 'livesearch through. After installing plugins, they should be running.

Rails Rspec model testing skeleton & cheat sheet using rspec-rails, shoulda-matchers, shoulda-callbacks, and factory_girl_rails. Pretty much a brain dump of examples of what you can (should?) test in a model. Pick & choose what you like, and please let me know if there are any errors or new/changed features out there. Reddit comment thread: http…
# This is a skeleton for testing models including examples of validations, callbacks,
# scopes, instance & class methods, associations, and more.
# Pick and choose what you want, as all models don't NEED to be tested at this depth.
#
# I'm always eager to hear new tips & suggestions as I'm still new to testing,
# so if you have any, please share!

Add this to your bash_profile. Now, whenever you need to fetch your ssh-key, just type sshkey, and it'll be copied to your clipboard.
alias sshkey="cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub | pbcopy && echo 'Copied to clipboard.'"

Gist blogging? Yet another exposition on the nature of OO programming.

Object-orientation

There are many articles and discussion threads on the web regarding the nature of Object-oriented (OO) programming. Most of them come at the question from a Programming Language Theory (PLT) perspective, attempting to assert a formal definition of OO programming and objects. I'm not going to do that here. Instead, I'm going to write about objects from an implementation perspective, approaching the subject first from below and then from above.

An implementation of a merged array in Ember.js that combines items from multiple source arrays so you can easily list them together in your Handlebars templates. * `Ember.MergedArray` is an array that observes multiple other arrays (called source arrays) for changes and includes

function empty(obj) {
var key;
for (key in obj) if (obj.hasOwnProperty(key)) return false;
return true;
}
