Run NodeJS as a Service on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

With Node you can write very fast JavaScript programs serverside. It's pretty easy to install Node, code your program, and run it. But > how do you make it run nicely in the background like a true server?

  • Go to /etc/init/
  • $ sudo vim yourapp.conf
  • Paste script.conf
  • $ sudo start yourapp
  • And when you wanna kill the process $ sudo stop yourapp

Elm Json.Decode tutorial and cheatsheet

When receiving JSON data from other resources(server API etc), we need Json.Decode to convert the JSON values into Elm values. This gist let you quickly learn how to do that.

I like to follow working example code so this is how the boilerplate will look like:

import Graphics.Element exposing (Element, show)
import Task exposing (Task, andThen)
import Json.Decode exposing (Decoder, int, string, object3, (:=))

import Http
let UserContext = React.createContext();
class App extends React.Component {
state = {
user: null,
setUser: user => {
this.setState({ user });
}
};
