Fix hidive srt subs for mkv
#!/usr/bin/env python3
#
# Fix (hidive) srt subtitles for mkv player
# These subs seem to have multi-line captions with a 1ms start offset
# mpv then prints these in the wrong order (issue #7070)
# This script will merge subtitle lines correctly for mpv

Linux Desktop on Apple Silicon in Practice

Linux Desktop on Apple Silicon in Practice

I bought M1 MacBook Air. It is the fastest computer I have, and I have been a GNOME/GNU/Linux user for long time. It is obvious conclusion that I need practical Linux desktop environment on Apple Silicon.

Fortunately, Linux already works on Apple Silicon/M1. But how practical is it?

  • Two native ports exist.

Terminological Note

"OpenPGP" refers to the OpenPGP protocol, in much the same way that HTML refers to the protocol that specifies how to write a web page. "GnuPG", "SequoiaPGP", "OpenPGP.js", and others are implementations of the OpenPGP protocol in the same way that Mozilla Firefox, Google Chromium, and Microsoft Edge refer to software packages that process HTML data.

Reproducing CrystalDiskMark tests with fio - fixes for https://unix.stackexchange.com/revisions/480191/9
#!/bin/bash
# This script is based on https://unix.stackexchange.com/revisions/480191/9 .
# The following changes proved to be necessary to make it work on CentOS 7:
# * removed disk info (model, size) - not very useful, might not work in many cases.
# * using "bw" instead of "bw_bytes" to support fio version 3.1 (those availible through yum @base)
# * escaping exclamation mark in sed command
# * the ".fiomark.txt" is not auto-removed
LOOPS=5 #How many times to run each test

macOS Mojave dynamic background re-implement as GTK+ background slideshow. Background images are changed to reflect the time of the day.
<!-- Instructions:
- Download and unzip Mojave dynamic background here: https://files.rb.gd/mojave_dynamic.zip
- Rename the extracted folder as "mojave-background" (Excuse the trouble but I renamed it on my machine and already use that path in the XML file)
- Save this xml file next to the Mojave background files
- Fix the path to the background images below (better using absolute path)
- Lastly, either:
+ GNOME: Use gnome-tweaks tool to select this XML as wallpaper (as default wallpaper settings won't let you choose wallpaper from custom path)
+ MATE: Go to background setting (in Appearance) > Choose +Add... > make sure **All files** filter is selected at the bottom right > Then choose mojave.xml
-->
