UMD-inspired Module Boilerplate

UMD-Inspired JS Module Boilerplate

This is the module format you don't know you need until you need it. Write your module once and have it work in a CJS/NodeJs, AMD, YUI (v3+), or Browser Global environment.

Best Used When...

  • You are migrating from namespaced (err, globals) code to either AMD or CJS modules or both.
  • You can't yet factor out browser globals but also need to test your code via NodeJS (e.g. Mocha).

Benefits & Trade-offs

An animated normalized stacked barchart.

This is an animated variation of mbostock's normalized stacked barchart. When you click on a block, that block is sent to the bottom of the stack and the bars are reordered by decreasing height of that block. This allows you to compare any value in the stacks with a common baseline, eliminating a common criticism of stacked barcharts.

ES5 vs ES6 function currying
function curried(fn) {
var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments, 1);
return function() {
return fn.apply(this, args.concat(Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments, 0)));
}
}

Mocking React components with Sinon and QUnit.

React makes compositing components easy. However testing them can get ugly if you are not careful. Consider this example:

var ChildA = React.createClass({
    displayName: "ChildA",
    render: function(){
        return (<div>A in the house</div>);
    }
});

bling dot js
/* bling.js */
window.$ = document.querySelector.bind(document);
window.$$ = document.querySelectorAll.bind(document);
Node.prototype.on = window.on = function(name, fn) { this.addEventListener(name, fn); };
NodeList.prototype.__proto__ = Array.prototype;
NodeList.prototype.on = function(name, fn) { this.forEach((elem) => elem.on(name, fn)); };
