Demystifying Docker Volumes for Mac and PC Users

Demystifying Docker Volumes for Mac and PC Users

  1. Docker runs on a Linux kernel

Docker can be confusing to PC and Windows users because many tutorials on that topic assume you're using a Linux machine.

As a Linux user, you learn that Volumes are stored in a part of the host filesystem managed by Docker, and that is /var/lib/docker/volumes. When you're running Docker on a Windows or Mac OS machine, you will read the same documentation and instructions but feel frustrated as that path don't exist on your system. This simple note is my answer to that.

When you use Docker on a Windows PC, you're typically doing one of these two things:

  • Run Linux containers in a full Linux VM (what Docker typically does today)

How to setup Vortex Race 3 keyboard for Mac and move Fn key to Home

How to setup Vortex Race 3 for Mac with latest (on 2020-01-05) firmare V1.02.05.

For better understanding we will use the following naming convention:

  [ L1 ][ L2 ][ L3 ][ Space ][ R1 ][ R2 ][ R3 ]
  1. Reset everything by pressing L3+R1 for 5 seconds. Left LED will blink white color while you're holding the keys. Release them after it stopeed blinking.
  2. Get into one of the programmable layers (R2+RShift) – I like red, the super bright laser LED is the least super annoying in red.
  3. Put the keyboard in Windows Mode (Pn+W), it's the least problematic one.

Master GitHub markdown tables with code blocks

  1. Use HTML tags to define the table to get the best layout result
  2. Use either backticks (```) or the HTML pre element with attribute lang
  3. Keep a blank line before and after a code block for correct formatting and syntax highlighting

How to setup Vortex Race 3 (firmware v1.02.05) for Mac OS

The Vortex Race 3 is a great mechanical keyboard, but using it with MacOS requires some adjustments. We need to reposition and reprogram the modifier keys. Unfortunately the Race 3 does not support the online MPC, so we will have to do this using the on-board programming mode.

This guide is heavily based on a gist by arogulin. It only adds a bit of formatting and a few minor notes.

For better understanding we will use the following naming convention for the key positions: L1L2L3SpaceR1R2R3

  1. Reset everything. Press L3+R1 for 5 seconds. Release the keys when the white led stops blinking.
  2. Choose a progammable layer (and led color) by pressing R2+RShift several times. I chose red (layer 1).

A Node + TypeScript + ts-node + ESM experience that works.

The experience of using Node.JS with TypeScript, ts-node, and ESM is horrible.

There are countless guides of how to integrate them, but none of them seem to work.

Here's what worked for me.

Just add the following files and run npm run dev. You'll be good to go!

package.json
