Advanced SCSS, or, 16 cool things you may not have known your stylesheets could do

Advanced SCSS

Or, 16 cool things you may not have known your stylesheets could do. I'd rather have kept it to a nice round number like 10, but they just kept coming. Sorry.

I've been using SCSS/SASS for most of my styling work since 2009, and I'm a huge fan of Compass (by the great @chriseppstein). It really helped many of us through the darkest cross-browser crap. Even though browsers are increasingly playing nice with CSS, another problem has become very topical: managing the complexity in stylesheets as our in-browser apps get larger and larger. SCSS is an indispensable tool for dealing with this.

This isn't an introduction to the language by a long shot; many things probably won't make sense unless you have some SCSS under your belt already. That said, if you're not yet comfy with the basics, check out the aweso

Sass mixin to convert photoshop line-height to CSS, photoshop letter-spacing to CSS
/* Reset rem to 10-based instead of default browser 16 */
html {
font-size: 62.5%;
}
/*
Photoshop does not apply line height to the first row, which CSS does. This creates all kinds of havock.
To calculate the correct offset for the first line we need the font-size and the lineheight, i.e:
@include line-height(22,30);
#!/usr/bin/php
<?php
# create a filename for the emlx file
list($ms, $time) = explode(' ', microtime());
$filename = dirname(__FILE__).'/'.date('Y-m-d h.i.s,', $time).substr($ms,2,3).'.emlx';
# write the email contents to the file
$email_contents = fopen('php://stdin', 'r');
$fstat = fstat($email_contents);

Ffffind (downloads every image from a given FFFFOUND! account)
"""
ash_ffffind.py
v1.1 (September 14, 2015)
by [email protected]
Automatically downloads all images from ffffound saved by a specific user.
Will first try to download the image from the original source (to get the highest quality possible).
If that fails, it'll download the cached version from ffffound.

programming excuses
Actually, that's a feature
Don't worry, that value is only wrong half of the time
Even though it doesn't work, how does it feel?
Everything looks fine my end
How is that possible?
I broke that deliberately to do some testing
I can have a look but there's a lot of if statements in that code!
I can't make that a priority right now
I can't test everything
I couldn't find any examples of how that can be done anywhere else in the project
