ClojureScript secretary client side navigation without hashes

This is the example that comes with the reagent template converted to use HTML5 based history. This means there are no # in the urls.

I just got this working, so there might be better approaches

The changes are

  • use goog.history.Html5history instead of goog.History
  • listen to clicks on the page, extract the path from them, and push them onto the history
  • listen to history changes, and have secretary do its thing in response

io.js - what you need to know

io-logo-substack

  • io is a fork of node v0.12 (the next stable version of node.js, currently unreleased)
  • io.js will be totally compatible with node.js
  • the people who created io.js are node core contributors who have different ideas on how to run the project
  • it is not a zero-sum game. many core contributors will help maintain both node.js and io.js

Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL and phpMyAdmin on OS X

This is my take on how to get up and running with NGINX, PHP-FPM, MySQL and phpMyAdmin on OSX Yosemite.

This article is adapted from the original by Jonas Friedmann. Who I just discovered is from Würzburg in Germany. A stonesthrow from where I was born ;)

Xcode

Make sure you have the latest version of XCode installed. Available from the Mac App Store.

CircleCI elixir build example

This runs a build for a small elixir (phoenix) project in about 40 seconds by caching as much of the compiled files as possible.

We've been using this for months in multiple projects without any issues. Please ping be if there is any issues with this script and I'll update it.

It should be generic enough to work on any elixir app using mix.

If you have a elixir_buildpack.config, then enable that section in the build script to keep versions in sync!

2016-08-09: Updated to newer Erlang and Elixir and fixed curl command.

CoreOS on Digital Ocean using Terraform

Terraform, CoreOS, and Digital Ocean

Let's use Terraform to easily get a CoreOS cluster up on Digital Ocean. In this example we will get a 5 node CoreOS cluster up and running on the Digital Ocean 8GB size.

Install Terraform

Grab a copy of Terraform for your platform from http://www.terraform.io/downloads.html. Follow the instructions at http://www.terraform.io/intro/getting-started/install.html by getting Terraform in your PATH and testing that it works.

Digital Ocean API Key

(define root 52)
(define scale (pc:scale 4 'aeolian))
(define right-hand
(lambda (beat dur)
(play sampler
(pc:quantize (cosr (+ root 24) (cosr 5 3 1/2) 7/3) scale)
(cosr 80 20 7/3)
(* 2.0 dur))
(if (> (random) .6)
