Virtual Hosts on nginx (CSC309)

When hosting our web applications, we often have one public IP address (i.e., an IP address visible to the outside world) using which we want to host multiple web apps. For example, one may wants to host three different web apps respectively for example1.com, example2.com, and example1.com/images on the same machine using a single IP address.

How can we do that? Well, the good news is Internet browsers

These instructions are intended to be used on macOS Sierra, but they have been known to work in El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion.

NOTE: You may substitute the edit command for nano, vim, or whatever the editor of your choice is. Personally, I forward the edit command to Sublime Text:

First in a powershell create a new network switch

New-VMSwitch -SwitchName "SwitchName" -SwitchType Internal
Get-NetAdapter       // (note down ifIndex of the newly created switch as INDEX)
New-NetIPAddress -IPAddress 192.168.0.1 -PrefixLength 24 -InterfaceIndex <INDEX>

In your ubuntu server open your network netplan
