Setup NixOS on Macbook w/ Apple Silicon Chip (LUKS + LVM + BTRFS)

A guide to setup NixOS with LUKS and BTRFS on a MacBook Pro

This is mostly a dumping of my thoughts and steps I had to go to setup my macbook with NixOS.

I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information and nor being held accountable to any issue if somehow this guide ends up on the internet.

Install NVIDIA driver & CUDA inside an LXC container running Ubuntu 16.04

Installing NVIDIA Driver & CUDA inside an LXC container running Ubuntu 16.04 on a neuroscience computing server.

Introduction: I was trying to run some neuroscience image processing commands that uses NVIDIA GPU. The challenge is that most of our computation will be run inside an LXC container running Ubuntu 16.04 (the host runs Ubuntu 16.04 as well). Installing the NVIDIA driver on the host is not so hard, but doing it inside the LXC container is much more challenging.

I already have an unprivileged container running, so I will not repeat the steps to create an LXC container here.

Our graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

Here are the main steps:

Mounting VirtualBox shared folders on Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS

Update 28 July 2019: An updated version of this guide for Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS is now available. Feel free to check it out.

Update 23 May 2020: This guide is ALREADY OUTDATED and might no longer work with new versions of Ubuntu and VirtualBox. Please consider switching to the updated guide instead. I will no longer respond to the replies to this gist. Thank you.

GNU/Linux UFW VPN kill switch tutorial

GNU/Linux UFW VPN kill switch tutorial

This is a quick guide for setting up a kill switch using UFW (Uncomplicated FireWall). It is assumed you are using OpenVPN and optionally Network-Manager with network-manager-openvpn.

1. (Optional) IP Addresses

Before we can start we're going to need the IP address (or the IP addresses) of your VPN so that we can whitelist those later on, write them down. They are obviously going to be different for every VPN and VPNs with multiple servers, so I'll leave this up to you.

2. Install UFW

On some systems UFW is installed and enabled by default (Ubuntu, for example). Installation procedure is going to be different for every distribution of GNU/Linux, but it's usually something like
