Cloud Init script for building a coreos cluster at home on XenServer using Cloud-Init and ETCD2

This Cloud-init script can be used to bootstrap a Xen based CoreOS server through Xen orchestra.

Features;

  1. Workaround for the lack of /etc/environment on 'unsupported' hypervisors
  2. Static IP allocation to deal with dhcp causing problems (On my network at least)
  3. etcd2 bootstrap discovery using public service and discovery tokens
    1. Manual reconfiguration to allow for membership changes after cluster is operational

Steps to migrate from SVN to GitLab

This process worked for me. I take no responsibility for any damage or loss incurred as a result of following or not following these steps or, for that matter, anything else you might do or not do.

Setup

  • SVN is hosted at svn.domain.com.au.
  • SVN is accessible via http (other protocols should work).
  • GitLab is hosted at git.domain.com.au and:

Finding Packer-generated AMIs automatically after builds

The basic technique is to have Packer add a tag with a unique value during the build, and use AWS' built-in filtering capabilities to find that specific AMI after the build finishes.

  • template.json - Shows the settings that need to be added to your template
  • build.sh - Shows how to use the template to do a build and retrieve the AMI information

# How to install `ipkg` on a Synology DS214
After a couple of days of trying to get `ipkg` woking on my DS214 I found [this article](https://github.com/trepmag/ds213j-optware-bootstrap) by [trepmag](https://github.com/trepmag). It is written for the DS213j, but it’s been working for me and [others](https://github.com/alberthild) for the DS214 too.
I have done some minor changed to clarify some things, but if you are a Linux guy (unlike me) my changes might be of no use to you.
