Complete migration guide from Symfony 2.3 LTS to Symfony 2.7 LTS

From Symfony 2.3 to Symfony 2.7: the complete guide

Objectives

  • assume your code doesn't use any deprecated from versions below Symfony 2.3
  • update dependencies from 2.3 to 2.7
  • do not support "deprecated", be "Symfony3-ready"
  • list tasks component by component, bundle by bundle.

On mobile, sometimes it's necessary to provide an invisible larger area to recognize touch inputs on a crucial or otherwise difficult to activate button. This is an example of one way of doing so using pseudo elements. In this particular implementation, the buttons this was being added to would shrink while active, so a countering scaling effect…

Ghost CMS with NGINX for Maximum Performance

Full blog post can be found here: http://pnommensen.com/2014/09/07/high-performance-ghost-configuration-with-nginx/

Ghost is an open source platform for blogging founded by John O'Nolan and Hannah Wolfe. It's a node.js application and therefore works great in conjunction with nginx. This guide will will help you create a high performance nginx virtual host configuration for Ghost.

"Don't use #nodejs for static content" - @trevnorris. If #nginx isn't sitting in front of your node server, you're probably doing it wrong.

The node.js application runs on a port on your server

A primitive Double A (AAA-minus-Accounting) RBAC system implemented in declarative Nginx config

Nginx Double A

A primitive Double A (AAA-minus-Accounting) RBAC system implemented in declarative Nginx config.

Background

So I noticed https://github.com/alexaandru/elastic_guardian, a simple AAA reverse-proxy to sit in front of Elasticsearch. Reading the source and comments tickled my "why is this in code not config?" funnybone.

I asked @alexaandru (https://twitter.com/jpluscplusm/status/438339557906735104) who told me it was mostly the resulting complexity of the nginx config he tried that prompted him to write it.

a simple git branching model

a simple git branching model (written in 2013)

This is a very simple git workflow. It (and variants) is in use by many people. I settled on it after using it very effectively at Athena. GitHub does something similar; Zach Holman mentioned it in this talk.

Update: Woah, thanks for all the attention. Didn't expect this simple rant to get popular.
