Getting a USB device to show up in a Docker container on OS X

Getting a USB device to show up in a Docker container on OS X

Some background

I was trying to get the Arduino IDE to work inside a Docker container on OS X. I was able to get the IDE working (see Getting X11 GUI applications to work on OS X with Docker), but I could not figure out how to make the USB port for the Arduino visible.

The solution

I first tried to directly map hardware serial port into the Docker container, doing something like this:

Configure GitHub Pull Request Builder Jenkins plugin with Groovy
// ghprb 1.29.2
import java.lang.reflect.Field
import jenkins.model.*
import org.jenkinsci.plugins.ghprb.*
def descriptor = Jenkins.instance.getDescriptorByType(org.jenkinsci.plugins.ghprb.GhprbTrigger.DescriptorImpl.class)
Field auth = descriptor.class.getDeclaredField("githubAuth")
auth.setAccessible(true)

tmux `sticky` panes

TMUX sticky panes

Step 1

Create the session that will manage the nested/sticky panes

  • create new session named shared

      $ tmux new -s shared

  • rename current window

BASH Absolute path of current script
DIR=$( cd "$( dirname "${BASH_SOURCE[0]}" )" && pwd )

Is a useful one-liner which will give you the full directory name of the script no matter where it is being called from

These will work as long as the last component of the path used to find the script is not a symlink (directory links are OK). If you want to also resolve any links to the script itself, you need a multi-line solution:

SOURCE="${BASH_SOURCE[0]}"
while [ -h "$SOURCE" ]; do # resolve $SOURCE until the file is no longer a symlink

CtrlP

Basic Usage

  • Run :CtrlP or :CtrlP [starting-directory] to invoke CtrlP in find file mode.
  • Run :CtrlPBuffer or :CtrlPMRU to invoke CtrlP in find buffer or find MRU file mode.
  • Run :CtrlPMixed to search in Files, Buffers and MRU files at the same time.

Check :help ctrlp-commands and :help ctrlp-extensions for other commands.

Once CtrlP is open:

my current ipxe setup

All of this should go into a directory that is available via HTTP and NFS. In variables.ipxe you can provide the HTTP root and NFS root paths, which are used later. Also there are some variables to set the default iscsi root (without the last part after the colon) and the initiator iqn. These are used to auto-fill the iscsi menu options.

You should tell iPXE to boot bootstrap.ipxe.

The bootstrap process reads a bunch of files and sets a bunch of variables. Of importance, it will read the file macs/XXXXXXX.ipxe

Setting up a SSL Cert from Comodo

I use Namecheap.com as a registrar, and they resale SSL Certs from a number of other companies, including Comodo.

These are the steps I went through to set up an SSL cert.
