A Common .ruby-version File For Ruby Projects

A Common .ruby-version File For Ruby Projects

Background

I've been using this technique in most of my Ruby projects lately where Ruby versions are required:

  • Create .rbenv-version containing the target Ruby using a definition name defined in ruby-build (example below). These strings are a proper subset of RVM Ruby string names so far...
  • Create .rvmrc (with rvm --create --rvmrc "1.9.3@myapp") and edit the environment_id= line to fetch the Ruby version from .rbenv-version (example below).

Today I learned about another Ruby manager, rbfu, where the author is using a similar technique with .rbfu-version.

@user.should have(1).error_on(:username) # Checks whether there is an error in username
@user.errors[:username].should include("can't be blank") # check for the error message
#Rendering
response.should render_template(:index)
#Redirecting
response.should redirect_to(movies_path)

Checkout github pull requests locally

Locate the section for your github remote in the .git/config file. It looks like this:

[remote "origin"]
	fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
	url = [email protected]:joyent/node.git

Now add the line fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/* to this section. Obviously, change the github url to match your project's URL. It ends up looking like this:

Format program listings for Markdown
sed -E -e 's/^/ /g' -e 's/^ --- ?//g' | pandoc -o listing.pdf -
That expression is a cheap literate programming system for Markdown.
Start commentary lines with '--- ' and they will be
markdown-formatted, the rest will be code. (Uses Lua comment syntax.)
Finally the right implementation of this idea:
