From least to most important

• command line values (for example, -u my_user, these are not variables)
• role defaults (defined in role/defaults/main.yml)
• inventory file or script group vars
• inventory group_vars/all

The default format of keys was changed in OpenSSL 1.0. From OpenSSL 1.0 change log:

Make PKCS#8 the default write format for private keys, replacing the traditional format. This form is standardised, more secure and doesn't include an implicit MD5 dependency. [Steve Henson]

Methods of Signing Git Commits on MacOS

This Gist explains how to sign commits using gpg in a step-by-step fashion. Previously, krypt.co was heavily mentioned, but I've only recently learned they were acquired by Akamai and no longer update their previous free products. Those mentions have been removed.

Additionally, 1Password now supports signing Git commits with SSH keys and makes it pretty easy-plus you can easily configure Git Tower to use it for both signing and ssh.

For using a GUI-based GIT tool such as Tower or Github Desktop, follow the steps here for signing your commits with GPG.

First Method

Deleting the .git folder may cause problems in our git repository. If we want to delete all of our commits history, but keep the code in its current state, try this:

# Check out to a temporary branch:
git checkout --orphan TEMP_BRANCH

# Add all the files:
git add -A

Pull Request Etiquette

Why do we use a Pull Request workflow?

PRs are a great way of sharing information, and can help us be aware of the changes that are occuring in our codebase. They are also an excellent way of getting peer review on the work that we do, without the cost of working in direct pairs.

Ultimately though, the primary reason we use PRs is to encourage quality in the commits that are made to our code repositories

Done well, the commits (and their attached messages) contained within tell a story to people examining the code at a later date. If we are not careful to ensure the quality of these commits, we silently lose this ability.
