The Mathematics of Curves & Animations

Hello everyone. I'm Umit. 4th year CMPE student in Bogazici University. I also work as a product engineer at Inploi. My role involves a perfect combination of digital design and engineering. Additionally, motion is an indispensable part of the product development process.

So, today we'll be talking about images, animations, and the mathematics behind them. Something I've always been fascinated by/found interesting.

For demonstration purposes, we'll be using Figma, Adobe After Effects, VSCode, and a few other tools.

The Mathematics of Curves and Animations

Opening Remarks

  • Computer store information, including graphics. They are stored in disk / memory and used as blueprints to display on runtime.
  • Information stored for a line, line segment, circle, or simple mathematical expressions such as x^2, sinx.
  • What about arbitrary shapes? Shapes of aesthetics & information purposes.
  • Can we have a model that can represent ANY curve. Would it require infinite data.
