Home Server setup: Raspberry PI on Internet via reverse SSH tunnel

Raspberry Pi on Internet via reverse SSH tunnel

HackerNews discussed this with many alternative solutions: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24893615

I already have my own domain name: mydomain.com. I wanted to be able to run some webapps on my Raspberry Pi 4B running perpetually at home in headless mode (just needs 5W power and wireless internet). I wanted to be able to access these apps from public Internet. Dynamic DNS wasn't an option because my ISP blocks all incoming traffic. ngrok would work but the free plan is too restrictive.

I bought a cheap 2GB RAM, 20GB disk VM + a 25GB volume on Hetzner for about 4 EUR/month. Hetzner gave me a static IP for it. I haven't purchased a floating IP yet.

Connecting to a Raspberry Pi through a VPS using a reverse SSH tunnel

SSH (Secure Shell) to a host existing in an internal network through a reverse-tunneled SSH connection to an externally accessible VPS (Virtual Private Server). This setup is described where the internal host is a Raspberry Pi, but can be generalized for any host on the internal network that runs an OpenSSH server.

ML Repository for SEO

Machine Learning Repository for SEO

SEO is a field that is rich with data, yet many young SEOs may not be equipped to learn tools that will prepare them for the future. We want to support our community by using our expertise to provide access to more advanced tools that will allow SEOs of all levels to play with the technologies that will shape the future of our work.

Objectives

  • Provide a repositiory that makes it possible to learn about ML specifically targeted to those interested in SEO
  • Provide a repository that allows a novice user to run a simple model on something meaningful for SEO.
  • Provide a repository that allows advanced users to save time on data getting, cleaning, preprocessing, and model selection.
  • Allow users to showcase work and models developed.
  • Have users get involved with the future development of the repo.

Deploying to Elastic Beanstalk via CircleCi 2.0

Deploying to Elastic Beanstalk via CircleCi 2.0

I got to here after spending hours trying to deploy to an Elastic Beanstalk instance via CircleCi 2.0 so I thought I'd write up what worked for me to hopefully help others. Shout out to RobertoSchneiders who's steps for getting it to work with CircleCi 1.0 were my starting point.

For the record, I'm not the most server-savvy of developers so there may be a better way of doing this.

Rust Server Deployment for Google Container Engine

Howdy Y'all! I'm @kordless on YouTube and I occasionally play and stream Rust, the game.

This repo is for deploying a Rust Server running on Google Container Engine. Google has a deal going where you can get $300 of free credits for a year on Google Cloud, so it's a good excuse to signup and run your own server. And no, I don't work for Google!

This deployment uses an image built by @dids, which is hosted on Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/r/didstopia/rust-server/

This deployment method can be used to start a small server to play with friends or practice building things. In a few days, I'll update the scripts to include a way to save the content you've created, in-game, with others who can then run their own servers and load your content in to explore it for themselves.

For now, start by navigating to Google Cloud and signup for an account. You'll need to enter some credit card details to get this going, but Google is giving you $300 in credits for the next year. Should be e
