After allowance has been made for abnormal circumstances, the social institutions, ideas and habits of groups in the outside world are to be found reflected in a Prisoner of War Camp. It is an unusual but a vital society. Camp Organization and politics are matters of real concern to the inmates, as affecting their present and perhaps their future existences. Nor does this indicate any loss of proportion. No one pretends that camp matters are of any but local importance or of more than transient interest, but their importance there is great. Auf meinen Reisen in Japan begegnete mir einmal ein christlicher Missionar, der tief im Lande seit 18 Jahren in einem kleinen Dorf tätig war. Er erzählte von den vielfältigen Schwierigkeiten seiner Arbeit, dass es aber doch dann und wann ganz echte Bekehrungen gäbe. Nur, sagte er, wenn es ans Sterben geht, dann sterben diese Menschen am Ende doch nicht christlich sondern japanisch. Auf meine Frage, was er darunter verstünde, gab er eine seltsame Antwort. Es ist bei diesen Japanern so, meinte er, als stellten sie, wenn sie in diese Welt kommen, nur einen Fuß herüber auf das Ufer dieses Lebens, und so, als verlören sie zeitlebens das Gefühl, im Grunde auf dem anderen Ufer beheimatet zu sein, nie aus den Gliedern. That having been made clear:

The Culture is a group-civilisation formed from seven or eight humanoid species, space-living elements of which established a loose federation approximately nine thousand years ago. The ships and habitats which formed the original alliance required each others' support to pursue and maintain their independence from the political power structures - principally those of mature nation-states and autonomous commercial concerns - they had evolved from.

In the history of the world, since the dawn of democracy, no political project had ever won by the number of votes that we won with today. It's literally the greatest landslide in history. It is the greatest difference between first and second place in all of history.

And we haven't just won the Presidency for the second time, receiving over 85% of the votes; we have also won the Legislative Assembly, taking 58 out of 60 seats. At the very least. [Yes we did!] Of course we did it! 58 out of 60 at the very least. Likely more. This would be the first time that there is a single ruling party in a fully democratic system. All of the opposition, all together, has been pulverized.
