It is not working in IOS8, it causes app crash.
if (CFGetTypeID(platformSerialNumber) == CFStringGetTypeID())
The part that doesn't work on iOS 8 is IORegistryEntryCreateCFProperty(). It simply doesn't return an object on iOS8 (as of beta5).
Having the same problem.
if (CFGetTypeID(platformSerialNumber) == CFStringGetTypeID())
used to work till iOS 8.0 beta 4. Broken in Beta 5.
I'm also get this problem.
Does any body have other solution?
Thanks,
Hau
Seems that if you query for the list of all available entries under the IOPlatformExpertDevice service, you get the following:

Is it a bug in IOKit or a decision from Apple to remove the information ?
Device serial number can get by *.mobileconfig files.
But for it needs webservice.
How it works you can see by follow link http://get.udid.io from ios device.
This principle may use for own app.
Mb above info will help someone
@maxsava, but what if we want that one in my own program
I can't find any other method to get serial number in ios 8.
So i've added *.mobileconfig to my project. And run install procedure it when i need to get serial number.
When user accepts it, it send device's info (in my case it's serial number) to url (my web server) that is specified in *.mobileConfig.
Web Server retrieves this info by php script and open app by url-scheme which contents serial number.
In addition i save this serial number in keyChain.
Thus installing *.mobile config occurs once. Further i obtain serial number from keychain every time when app is launched. Mb this approach suits you.
Hi @maxsava,
I'm facing the problem of cannot retrieve back the UDID that device sent to server for my app. It's so lucky when I found your solution, it's really a great idea. But I have a big concern that for instance I have two devices and both install my app, I want to get back the UDID of each device. How can the Web Server can know on which device it'll open the app to attach the correct UDID? For example, open app on device1 will attach UDID of device1 and on device2 to will attach UDID of device2 to the command. Does the server has to identify any special key to indicate the command will be sent to device1, not device2 and how can it do this?
Thanks a lot for helping!
Lucy.

Fine! It works.thanks!
I am using that in Swift project with the help of bridging header, It returns serial number in simulator but not in real device. Can you please help me ?
I can't get serial numbe
Doesn't work for iOS 10?
not supported by Apple I get following message from the review team.
Your app uses or references the following non-public APIs:
_kIOMasterPortDefault, _IOServiceMatching, _IOServiceGetMatchingService, _IORegistryEntryCreateCFProperty, _IOObjectRelease, _IOServiceMatching, _IOServiceGetMatchingService, _IORegistryEntryCreateCFProperty, _IOObjectRelease
How to use this code in c# iOS app
Thanks so much!! 2014!! and yet helped me!
