Mod1 Week 2- Journal

  1. The challenge for me around self reflection is is three fold. First and most importantly is that I sometimes learn things about myself that I do not like or that I am uncomfortable with. The second is that it is sometimes easy to get to self critical and overwhelmed by the things you want to change. Third finding time and making a habit out of doing it.

  2. Mapping reflections-
I bring empathy to my work and a team . I believe that mentoring and teaching people is fundamental to what I find fulfilling. I have am hardworking and efficiency driven. I would like to develop past chosen identity traits like project management and team management translate to the tech industry. I feel I do not yet posses the technical competence to translate them effectively. I am passionate about things agriculture and the outdoors but don't know how they might relate to tech.

  3. Good worthwhile work for me. Is work that provides a benefit to the community and the people it effect . It provides an opportunity for me to both learn and grow in my skills/understanding and allows me to provide mentorship to others. It also shows that I am a valued member of the team and that my work is recognized/appreciated.
I value two things. One that I am able to positively impact the people around me, both personal and professional. Two that I have self/family financial security and independence.
Sometime these view clash. It is challenging to find the balance between what I feel is right for the community and my perceived need for my own financial independence. I feel that these two thing can work to drive each other. I believe that if you have a company/ employment that is doing good for the community still has to be able to survive financially to continue to do positive things. Also that it is not ok to just focus on the bottom line at the expense at the cost of things around you. The trick is to try to find the right thing to focus on at the appropriate time.

Mod 1 week 4.

1- Habit Reflection
Leading up to Turing I read Atomic Habits and since then I have definitely become more aware of my habits. I have started planing my day and week with Trello and the results have been positive.

2- Start Where You Are
I had a ruff year leading up to Turing both with my health and emotional state. I had lyme disease that was miss diagnosed at the start. The effected my overall health and I am usually a very active person so that was also had mentally. Then the pandemic happened witch has been also hard with the lack of social interaction.

The things I enjoy most in work is mentorship and continuous learning and a strive to show my best.
The things I enjoyed least in my work has been supper long hour. Working weekends/holidays/lack of consistent schedule.

Time outside, climbing, friends/family, gardening.

Trying to make a few changes to positively impact my week. Do to the pandemic I have not been able to climb and have been adding yoga into my week instead. I have also started daily meditation.

There is a thought that all developer's do kinda the same ting every day. After investigation it seams that there is a wide range of what you do in the day to day.

Flexible location and consistent work week. A place that is know for mentorship and continued skill growth. The financial mean to start small hobby farm and someday retire.
