Augmented Reality for Tactical Map Preview and Mission Preparation, Overview of Military Assets and Advanced Warfighter Systems
The military sector has always been at the forefront of using emerging technological advancements for the purposes of training and combat enhancement.
Augmented reality (AR) is no exception. Far before Snapchat released its filters (which is the simplest form of AR) and augmented reality mobile app development wasn’t the in thing, the Indian Air Force had already implemented the technology of real-time overlaying for their fighter-jet pilots.
Since warfare is constantly evolving, armies have to keep up with the newest military “trends” and look for opportunities to get ahead in the field of technological warfare. With the expanding possibilities of data and graphics processing, the number of uses of augmented reality in military grows exponentially.
The objective of this project is to develop an Augmented Reality Software for Military Applications in the most extensive way without compromising the personnel's user experience, operational and situation awarness, ease of control and access.
- Detailed Project Report to be submitted.
- Code and data products developed during the project to be submitted.
- Tactical Augmented Map preview, Mission and Sotrie preparations.
- Easy Overview of Military Assets and Armaments.
- Friendly/ Foe Identification on Realtime Basis.
- Heads Up Display (HUD).
- Enhanced Training Sessions.
The below DEMO shows a sample implementation of Augmented Reality to Overview Military Assets as a proof of concept.
The following link is a sample project that I developed using Unity with AR and deployed as an Android App. https://github.com/Akash-Ramjyothi/Augmented-Reality-Android-App
The following are the minimum softwares that are going to be used in this scenario for development. However with varying in scalability, these are prone to changes.
- Unity Hub.
- Unity SDK version 2019 LTS.
- Vuforia Backend Service.
- 3rd Party 3D Models.
These are the list of the prefered hardware to produce maximum efficiency and extensive pracical usage. But they are all not compulsory to produce a prototype of the project.
- Microsoft Hololens 2.
- VR Headset.
- Android Phone.
