For some reason, the rtl8821ce WiFi hardware works poorly or not at all on most Linux distros. Apparently, the driver used in the Linux kernel for this hardware is outdated or for other reasons that I don't know about, it doesn't work properly. The solution to this problem is a driver developed by a friend from Portugal and placed on GitHub.
In this guide, we want to build and install this driver.
Warning: Before proceeding, take a Timeshift snapshot for safety.
Open a Terminal and follow along:
- Update your APT:
sudo apt update - Install the necessary tools:
sudo apt install bc module-assistant build-essential dkms git - Remove the
rtl8821ce-dkmsif it is present:sudo apt remove rtl8821ce-dkms - Clone the driver and get in the directory of cloned driver:
git clone https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce.git && cd rtl8821ce - Prepare/Build the driver:
sudo m-a prepare - If the output has
Couldn't create the /usr/src/linux symlink!, try again - Install the driver:
sudo ./dkms-install.sh - Open a new terminal and run:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf - Add
blacklist rtw88_8821ceto the end and save the file - Restart the system and... Done!
