A browser bookmarklet to manually transfer Mastodon posts to Twitter. Also a bookmarklet to tweet out any web page with its title and URL, since I made that in the process.

To Use

Create a new browser bookmark, and copy the contents of the tweet-this-toot.url file as the bookmark URL.
Open any Mastodon post in its own web page on its own host server (e.g., by clicking on the date when viewing it in your feed, or by copying the sharing URL). If you're viewing it on a different server's web app, you may need to use the "..." menu to "Open original page".

Vegetable Gardening for Beginners

A friend who has lived in apartment buildings almost all her life has finally secured herself a community garden plot. She asked for advice. I wrote out a long list, and figured others might find it useful, too.

The specific dates are aimed at Toronto, Ontario. ("Now" is late April.) But the general advice and plant recommendations apply for anyone in temperate climates. I've gardened in Ottawa, Vancouver, and Edmonton. That's Canadian zones 5a, 8a, and 3b.

At its core Twitter is public messaging. A simple way to say something, to anyone, that everyone in the world can see instantly.

We didn't start Twitter with a 140 character restriction. We added that early on to fit into a single SMS message (160 characters).

It's become a beautiful constraint, and I love it! It inspires creativity and brevity. And a sense of speed. We will never lose that feeling.

We've spent a lot of time observing what people are doing on Twitter, and we see them taking screenshots of text and tweeting it.
