Jitsi meet - easy setup with custom config - customizations are: removed all branding, removed every unnecesary button

Requirements:

Step 1

First create a domain or subdomain to use. For example video.example.com Generate ssl with letsencrypt.

Step 2

Run this commands in order:

mkdir video-jitsi
cd video-jitsi
wget https://github.com/jitsi/docker-jitsi-meet/archive/refs/tags/stable-7001.zip
unzip stable-*.zip
rm stable-*.zip
mv docker-jitsi-meet-stable-*/* ./
cp env.example .env
sh ./gen-passwords.sh
mkdir -p ./jitsi-meet-cfg/{web/crontabs,web/letsencrypt,transcripts,prosody/config,prosody/prosody-plugins-custom,jicofo,jvb,jigasi,jibri}

Step 3

Now change the following variables in the .env file: nano .env

  • CONFIG=./jitsi-meet-cfg
  • PUBLIC_URL - url of the site this will be hosted on
  • DOCKER_HOST_ADDRESS - public ip of the server
  • ENABLE_WELCOME_PAGE=0
  • ENABLE_LETSENCRYPT=0 - for reverse proxy
  • ENABLE_HTTP_REDIRECT=1 - for reverse proxy

To allow complete guest access without an account set this in .env

  • ENABLE_AUTH=1
  • ENABLE_GUESTS=1
  • AUTH_TYPE=jwt
  • JWT_ALLOW_EMPTY=1 - add this line if you don't find it. I found this method here

Step 4

Let's overwrite the index file with configs. Download this file, replace video.example.com with your domain everywhere, then place it as index-overwrite.html.

wget https://gist.githubusercontent.com/AndreiTelteu/2da5a6e47fba40a94d482a57a0068388/raw/8b8323307e10a9dcf6cf5c71259019bc63e56c26/index-overwrite.html
sed -i 's/video.example.com/your-domain-here.com/g' index-overwrite.html

Edit the docker-compose.yml file, in services > web > volumes add this line: (follow the same indentation!)

- ./index-overwrite.html:/usr/share/jitsi-meet/index.html:Z

Step 5

Start the containers:

docker-compose up -d
<html itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Product" prefix="og: http://ogp.me/ns#" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/html">
<head>
