What were your reflections from the video? The video is really interesting, I saw how "programing" is the language to imply conditions and reactions to run a program, but "biase" is the programing language that human uses. Based on our biases, we act and take decisions in our life, and the problem is that many times we are not aware of them. Every person is a world and based on our personal experience and characteristics we start to program or define our biases. For my perspective, the video's message is that if we addmit our biases to become aware and responsible of them, so we can go out of the box and go beyond expanding our perspectives.
-
In what ways have you examined your implicit biases before coming to Turing? I'm originally from mexico and I just move to live to United States the last year, so I have found many diases during this period of time. Discover and live with other culture has allow me to understand many conditions and judges that are part of my culture. Programming has been one them, due to in Mexico we have a judge that this is very selective career that is mainly occupied by asians and whithe people. But, with the reference from this video I noticed how important is the diversity into the technology industry. Internet is for every one, so if we want to growth and expand our vision, is important to remove those things which stop us in our grow.
-
__What kind of software do you imagine building in the future? How will understanding biases (or avoiding understanding biases) impact your products? I would like to work in a software related to music, one of the reasons is because music is the universal language. Is very important to understand who is my possible clients and analize the posible diases that can be implied on it, to be able to understand the barriers that I have. These judgments are not always negative if we use them in a smart way, because they can help us to build a wider perspective.
-
When you consider the way you move through the world, what elements of your identity are you most aware of on a daily basis? The fact of being persistent and open to other cultures and way of life. This is very important because if I can see beyond that supposition the propose can become clear. The concpet of family is a very important element due to, in our identity the family plays a importat role that allow us to easily incorporate to new cultures and countries.
-
What strengths does your identity give you? How will you utilize those at Turing? I am closely related to my country, I was born and raised there, I am very fortunate in what I have learned from it, but there are also many things that I do not agree very much. When I started living in another culture I have realized more aspects that I could not see before, one of them is the need is the human warmth with which we treat people and the family is also an essential part. I think these elements are important and I can contribute to Turing, because we are all going through a process of change and feeling that unity and support is important.
-
__How do you think you could value the identies of those around you to bring out their strengths at Turing? Has there been a time where you were able to advocate or include people around you? I believe the communication is the most important fact to create a good relationships and give support. This questions is related with diases because in order to value the identies from the other people is importat to remove my diases. When we are not aware or dont be on charge of this actions, we probably can lose a lot of opportunities to lear, grow and create a strong support with our team. Is like music, when you are playing alone is good, but when you play in an ensamble and everyone contributes with sometimes, the music gets louder and richer.
-
How will your strengths impact you as a teammate? What will you bring to your cohort? So far during this course, I have notice that communication is hard for me in this time, is not easy to express or give the support to my teammates at the begging but I will work on it, because I also looking for that. Besides, we are a pretty similar situation where we are moving out from our confort zone and trying to achieve a goal, so this is a very important point because we all have the same purpose, and it will let us to be closer.
