Hello fellow chefs!
I'm delighted that you're going to join us on Monday for Chef Fundamentals training. This email should tell you all you need to know:
Training takes place at the Raddison Edwardian Hotel in Leciester Square (http://www.radissonedwardian.com/london-hotel-gb-wc2h-7hl/gbpastor). The hotel is situated at the South West corner of the square, and is easily walkable from Leicester Square tube station (Northern and Piccadilly Lines) or Piccadilly Circus tube station (Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines).
The course takes place over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We're aiming for a 9.30 coffee and chat, with training kicking off each day at 1000 sharp. We'll be finished by 1830. Atalanta Systems will be providing lunch from the Cafe Rouge a la cart lunch menu on all three days.
On Monday night we'll be kicking off an evening's relaxation in the Salisbury (http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi?Salisbury,_WC2N_4AP), which is about ten minutes walk from the course venue, and provides good food and excellent beer. Those who wish can explore the Soho nightlife after a few beers!
On Tuesday, we've arranged a five course sit-down feast at the fabulous Souk Medina Moroccan restaurant in Covent Garden. We'll be throwing this open to the London Devops/Geek community, so there should be plenty of opportunity to meet like-minded people.
Sadly Joshua and I have to rush off to Belgium for advanced chef training on Thursday, so we won't be able to play on Wednesday night, but the West End remains your oyster!
In order to participate in the course, we ask that you bring a WiFi-enabled laptop. The lab sessions will be run on Amazon EC2, and we will be using the Opscode Platform for our Chef server.
On your laptop we require the following to be installed:
- Ruby 1.8.5, 1.8.6, 1.8.7, 1.9.1 or 1.9.2 with SSL bindings. Ruby 1.9.2 is recommended.
- Rubygems Version 1.3.5 or greater. Rubygems 1.3.7 is recommended.
- Chef version 0.9.12 - Debian packages are available from http://apt.opscode.com; Installation from gem is recommended.
We recommend Ubuntu (lucid or maverick) or Mac OSX, but the following platforms are fully supported:
- Ubuntu 8.04 +
- Debian 5.0 (lenny) +
- RHEL & CentOS (5.x)
- Mac OS X 10.4+
- Fedora 10+
It would be very beneficial if you had Oracle Virtualbox installed. Please don't install version 4.0 - 3.2 is recommended.
The course materials will be provided to you as a PDF at the beginning of the course.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me on the below details.
See you on Monday!
