Greetings, fellow pioneer! B. Boldt here – eccentric explorer and sometimes madman. If you’re reading this, you’ve washed up in a wild world brimming with opportunity and danger. Worry not – I’ve cataloged my hard-won wisdom to kickstart your journey.
First lesson: Shelter. When the sun dips and the square-faced moon rises, you’ll quickly appreciate a warm cozy fire. Why not setup your tent from Nomadic Tents? These ingenious portable shelters are bigger on the inside – truly a cozy canvas home you can plop down anywhere.
Come morning, it’s time to tinker. Embrace Tinkers’ Construct, the art of crafting custom tools. With a few patterns, some flint, and wood, I carved a sturdier pickaxe and shovel. These tools grow with you – upgrade and repair rather than remake. My first mattock, "Trusty Thwacker," is still with me.
Beginner Tips:
- Shelter by nightfall: Tent, dirt hovel, anything. Monsters are mean.
- Backpack is life: Use JEI (
R
for recipe,U
for usage) to learn crafting. - Comforts Sleeping Bag: Sleep without resetting spawn. Yes please.
- Tinker early: Flint tools are better than wood. Get a Part Builder and Tinkers' Station.
- Eat something: Cook food on your campfire, don’t starve or get food poisoning.
With shelter, tools, and a full belly, you’re off to a great start. Now let’s explore.
Beyond your camp lies both beauty and peril.
Above ground: massive redwood forests, barley fields, and weird biomes with rare loot or monsters. Underground: glowing caverns, magnetic crystals, and horrible ambushes. Cave biomes are beautiful nightmares.
Tip: Always bring torches, food, and a weapon. And maybe a spare pair of pants.
Structures:
- Cataclysm & Ice and Fire: Dungeons, dragons, ancient ruins.
- Stargates: Use glyphs and addresses to portal across dimensions. Careful where you dial!
Rule of Thumb: If it looks evil and lair-y, it is. Proceed accordingly.
I like tools. I love machines.
Create: Build contraptions, waterwheels, conveyor belts, and trains. I automated my farm, built a train, and yes, lost a machine to orbit.
Refined Storage: Forget chest digging. Store everything digitally. Search, auto-craft, sort. Sanity-saving.
Actually Additions: Zap stuff with a laser. Build coffee machines. Make magic drills. It’s the future!
TL;DR: Build machines early. Let tech work for you while you go fight pirates.
Magic is powerful, chaotic, and deeply stylish.
Botania: Garden magic. Feed flowers cake. Make sashes and lasers. Cauterize wounds (accidentally).
Ars Nouveau: Spell crafting galore. Design your own spells. Build a spellbook. Summon a fox.
Malum: Soul magic. Harvest essence from monsters. Create cursed but cool effects. Spooky!
Biomancy: Grow tools and machines from flesh. Organic pickaxes and chests. Feed them or else.
Iron’s Spellbooks: Found magic. Ready-to-use spells scattered across the world.
Tip: If the ritual says "DO NOT STAND HERE," stand there. (Maybe.)
Adventure is better with friends (even if they’re fuzzy or squeaky).
Alex’s Mobs: Bears, raccoons, sharks, and more. Beware moose. Seriously.
Doggy Talents: Train dogs. Armor them. Mid-combat healing licks. Best. Boy.
SWEM: Train horses. Customize them. Ride like a cowboy.
Mythic Mounts: Ride dragons, beetles, scorpions, hippogriffs. Pokémon meets Skyrim.
Rats Mod: Befriend rats. Train them. Build Ratlantis. Guard your shiny boots.
Some mobs just wanna throw hands. Throw back harder.
TaCZ: Guns. Scopes. Shotguns. Launchers. Don’t shoot indoors.
Better Combat: Melee overhaul. Dodge, parry, spin-to-win.
Crossbows & Potion Launchers: Specialty arrows. Healing grenades. Explosive hugs.
Defenses: Bear traps, turrets, potions. Layered protection.
Rule: Have backups. Don’t bring a wooden sword to a nether fight.
Make a house. Or a mansion. Or a tiny replica of your house.
Chipped: Hundreds of variants. Artistic cobblestone? Yes.
Abyssal Decor: Spooky statues, gothic flair.
Mr. Crayfish’s Furniture: Couches. Fridges. Toilets. Civilized living.
Little Tiles: Microblocks. Mini furniture. Mosaic dragons on your floor. Dangerously addictive.
Building Gadgets: Copy-paste. Massive builds. Wall in one click. Don't let friends prank you.
Pro tip: Your base can be a storybook. Build memories, not just walls.
Tired of solo life? Build a town. Lead a people. Become a legend.
Start with a Town Hall. Colonists arrive. Assign roles. Supply tools. Watch them grow.
Key Buildings:
- Builder’s Hut
- Lumberjack, Miner, Farmer
- Bakery, Barracks, Smeltery
- University, Town Bell
Boldtburg had it all: stables, parks, statues, harvest fests. Colonists even danced (kinda).
Challenges:
- Supply shortages
- Grumpy villagers
- Zombie raids
Rewards:
- A living, evolving town
- Custom NPCs and roles
- A statue of yourself (obviously)
Tip: Balance your time. Don’t come home to a strike or a fire.
Find my Distorted Discs hidden across dimensions. Collect them all. (Even the creepy ones!)
Make music: Craft instruments. Form a band.
Create Songs & Speakers: Stream from the internet. Walk around blasting tunes. Get cool points.
I recommend: SomaFM – find a stream link, slap it into your antenna.
Reminder: Music is power. Also, fun. Stay fresh!
