Agnoster ZSH Theme

agnoster.zsh-theme

A ZSH theme optimized for people who use:

Liberal, Accurate Regex Pattern for Matching Web URLs
The regex patterns in this gist are intended only to match web URLs -- http,
https, and naked domains like "example.com". For a pattern that attempts to
match all URLs, regardless of protocol, see: https://gist.github.com/gruber/249502

Better local require() paths for Node.js

Better local require() paths for Node.js

Problem

When the directory structure of your Node.js application (not library!) has some depth, you end up with a lot of annoying relative paths in your require calls like:

const Article = require('../../../../app/models/article');

Those suck for maintenance and they're ugly.

Possible solutions

Simple, cross-browser Javascript POST/GET xhr request object. Supports request data and proper AJAX headers.
/**
* IE 5.5+, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari XHR object

* @param string url
* @param object callback
* @param mixed data
* @param null x
*/
function ajax(url, callback, data, x) {

A badass list of frontend development resources I collected over time.
function hostReachable() {
// Handle IE and more capable browsers
var xhr = new ( window.ActiveXObject || XMLHttpRequest )( "Microsoft.XMLHTTP" );
var status;
// Open new request as a HEAD to the root hostname with a random param to bust the cache
xhr.open( "HEAD", "//" + window.location.hostname + "/?rand=" + Math.floor((1 + Math.random()) * 0x10000), false );
// Issue request and handle response

So, you want to run Chrome headless.

Update May 2017

Eric Bidelman has documented some of the common workflows possible with headless Chrome over in https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/04/headless-chrome.

Update

If you're looking at this in 2016 and beyond, I strongly recommend investigating real headless Chrome: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/lkgr/headless/README.md

Windows and Mac users might find using Justin Ribeiro's Docker setup useful here while full support for these platforms is being worked out.
