Chats and changes | |
By now, you should have access to community chats on the Patreon app. If you haven’t given them a spin yet, you really should! Chats are a great way to get even closer to your community in real time.
The chats rollout also includes a few changes you should know about, the biggest of which involves the future of your community tab. Read on for details and tips on how you can best communicate the changes to your community.
What are community chats?
Chats allow you and your fans to connect outside of the comment section and natively on Patreon. You can create and customize up to four chats by name, topic, emoji, and member tier.
Web vs. mobile | |
Right now, chats are available exclusively on the Patreon app. However, chats for web is currently in development. Keep an eye out for updates about that over the next few months.
What this means for your community tab
In the Patreon app, you now have a dedicated chats tab on your creator homepage which replaces what was your community tab.
On web, the community tab at the top of your creator homepage (now known as "member posts") will be removed on Monday, December 4th.
How to talk to members about this change
Below is a sample message that you can use to talk through these changes with your community. Of course, feel free to tweak so it’s in your own voice:
| |
Let’s talk about chats! I’m so excited to have a new way for all of us to connect outside of dms and comments.
| |
Chats are a huuuge step forward from the member posts tab, allowing us to get even closer, all in real time.
They’re also great for announcements and updates that feel too lightweight for me to do a whole post on.
If you have any questions or need help getting started, feel free to ask (in a chat, even!), or you can always check out the Patreon Help Center.
